Hi - new to the board, got ???'s about Hickory Docs
My surgeon was Dr. Cook(works in the same office as Dr. Cox) From my experience and from what I've heard from staff at Frye Medical Center, he is one of the best! I have never met Dr. Cox, so I don't know too much about him, but I do know that when I had my lapband surgery in Jan, he was not doing Lapband surgery, yet. I know that both drs do RNY. Best wishes with your choice in surgeons. I LOVE Dr. Cook and could not have made a better choice for me! Read my surgeons comments on my profile! The staff is great, too!!

Good morning:
I am in the Charlotte area so cannot comment on the Hickory docs but just wanted to welcome you to our board. I am 3 months post op and could not have done it without the fantastic people here. You will get more support than you could ever imagine.
Take care and good luck on your journey!
Pam
Thanks to all that responded.
I guess now my question is - why did you go with the RNY instead of the lapband? I am thinking that the lapband is not as invasive, has been very successful and I can return to work sooner.
My journey so far: I have been researching and finding the boards here and lapbandtalk quite useful. I have had my psych evals and have a letter of recommendation. I have talked to BCBS NC and have my answers from them - the customer rep that I talked to even sent a copy of the pages that I needed with the info highlighted. I have an appt this morning with my primary doc and I intend to leave there with the promise of a letter of recommendation and the copies of my chart ready for pick up by next week. My educational class is June 10th.
What can I do between now and June 10th? I am going to call and see if there is any possibility to go ahead and set an appt with one of the docs as soon after June 10th as I can. But what else?
I am not sure which of the docs will be doing my surgery, but it is good to know that Dr. Cook or Dr. Cox is well recommended.
Thanks again. I will be back with more later.
Shelia
Hi
Both are wonderful. Dr Cook did my RNY in Nov 20, 2006 and has fixed two hernias I had after the RNY. When they call you to give you a date for surgery she will ask you which doc. I said first available and I got Dr Cook. I wanted the RNY over the band because I did not want to have to mess with fills and have something forgein in me. Good luck and we are here to help you through your journey.
