OT ... Sarah's Surgery went well

Sarah's surgery went well. Dr. Feldman said that he was able to completely reconstruct the knee and the quadracept without having to break her leg. She has an epidural catheter to try to help control the pain. Right after surgery they had to reduce the amount of pain meds she had so that they could have her move her legs to ensure that she had the function she needs. It took a while to get the pain back under control and the epidural base line meds, plus the PCA she's using to self administer pain meds was pretty effective last night. She slept for about 3 hours uninterrupted early this morning. While she needed the sleep, she wasnt getting the self-dosing of the pain meds so her pain level increased significantly. It's getting back under control now and she's starting to rest again. Today will be a day of rest and recovery. They plan to leave the epidural in place today and she is not scheduled to have any physical therapy today. The Dr's will re-evaluate tomorrow to determine if they feel like her pain is well enough managed to remove the epidural. She won't start physical therapy until it has been removed. Thanks again for the well wishes and prayers ...they are truly appreciated. Barb (and Sarah)

Donna,

Thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers. She made it through the surgery, but has a difficult road in front of her with an arduous recovery.

Thanks again,

Barb

Dear Annie,

I will certainly give Sarah your sweet message. I'm afraid it's a bit early for rest, but I'm working on doing the best I can to take care of myself. I'm eating fairly decently and trying to rest when I can, but that's hard when in the hospital and also when needing to be 'available' when someone is hurting so badly.

Thanks again for the support,

Barb

R ...

Thanks so much! We've been warned it won't be easy or speedy, but like you, I'm hoping it will be as gentle and quick as possible. I think we just have to keep our eyes on the prize with this one.

Thanks again,

B

I am so glad the surgery went to well.   Will pray for a comfortable and great recovery for Sarah.   Get your cat naps when you can and remember to take care of yourself as she needs you to be healthy for her.    God Bless,  Pam
