What insurance do you have, I am not aware of many that don't cover WLS surgery in genreal? Is your insurnace or your policy, meaning does your employer exclude the rider from it's policy? If so then I would talk to your HR and see if there isn't something they can do to help.  Good Luck!

Would you not consider RNY at all?  Some insurances cover one but not the other. Keep us posted!

I agree with the others-- does it cover RNY? If it does, don't dismiss it just yet.  My husband's insurance had an "exclusion" policy that no weight loss procedures would be covered.  We added him to my insurance and he is scheduled for RNY surgery on June 5.  It has been an added expensive (since we have to PAY for him now and his insurance is free with work), but it's worth it! Good luck and I hope it works out!

Call back and find out if your insurance covers any WLS surgeries - I am guessing that since they dont cover the lapband, they dont cover WLS since all the major insurance carriers now cover the lapband. If your insurance doesnt have the benefit of WLS you can speak to your HR about adding the benefit or offering a plan that covers WLS when the next open enrollment is - its an additional benefit companies must pay more to have on the plan. If your HR says no or its not an option then really you have the option of going self pay or finding a parttime job w/benefits that covers WLS. You could consider going the legal route and hiring a laywer as well.
