a question
I am almost 3 months post op and I have been so tired this past week that I don't want to get out of bed. When I stand up everything goes black and my head pounds for a few secs. One time this last atleast a whole minute. I go to the doctor the first week of June for my 3 month check up but was wondering if anyone else might have experienced anything simular.

I had my surgery 3-4-08 and now that it's nice out I'm noticing a lack of energy. I also struggle to get in all my water. I have lightheadedness maybe 1 or 2 times a day when I go from sitting to standing. I'm trying to work on fluids to help with this.
For lack of energy I've turned to green smoothies. I use a magic bullet mixer and put in 4-5 strawberries, a handful of blueberries, 1/3 of a banana and half a micellar milk creamy vanilla shake and blend. Then I put in some ice and 1-2 leaves of a green leafy veggie (kale, chard or collards) and blend some more. All you taste is a berry smoothie and they're awesome. I have already noticed a difference in energy either from the 20gm of protein from the vanilla shake or the extra vitamins from the fruit and veggies.
Berries have the lowest amount of sugar of all the fruits so I try to take advantage of the inseason right now. Be careful how much banana because they're higher in sugar.
I imagine you can use any low carb protein shake. I just happen to have the micellar milk right now.
I only eat spinach and romaine as far as the green leafy veggies go so this is a great way to get the nutrients. The only greens I don't use are mustard greens because they will change the taste but the ones mentioned above don't change the taste. Just make sure you pull the leafy part off the stem because the stem will dull your blender of bullet..
I have a sleeve gastrectomy so I don't have any dumping. I hope you don't have any issues if you try to make this shake because it really is refreshing. My biggest problem drinking it is my four year old loves it too and he can drink faster then I can so sometimes he gets way more then I do but it's really nutritious for both of us so I can't complain.
If you can tolerate watermelon I've also noticed that I feel more hydrated on the days I get some watermelon in along with my water.
Good Luck
Amy

Thanks for the info. I am trying to increase my water intake. I was drinking 2 bottles a day plus the protein drinks. I have added one more bottle of water and it seemed to help yesterday but boy do I feel like I am floating!!!

It could possibly be this - google postural hypotension (orthostatic) or orthostatic hypotension - its when your BP drops from sudden changes in position. Many post-WLSers experience this, its not life threatening or dangerous... typically you are advised to not make sudden movements and stand slowly etc.
Dizzyness can also be caused by dehydration so make sure you are getting your fluids!
Of course call your surgeon either way since its been a sudden onset of symptoms!

Hey Jennifer,
I called the dr and they said basically the same thing. They want to see if my blood pressure is low (mine has always been right on target even at 429lbs)Yesterday I added an extra bottle of water and it seemed to help. I guess I am at a wait and see point to see if it goes away with the extra water.
Thanks
