Did you have to have a Bone Density Test???

Just when I thought I had completed every test I needed before surgery...I get a letter in the mail saying my surgeon wants me to have a Bone Density Test.  Is this routine, or do you think he saw something in my labs or something else that made him decide to send me for this test?  I just thought it was funny that this is the first I'm hearing about it!?

I had a bone density test. I think that they do it as a baseline in case you start having issues with calcium absorption, but I would just contact your surgeon's office ask them why they ordered the test and what they are looking for.

I was supposed to have one pre-op (my surgeon is in the same group as yours) but they "missed" it so I  had one almost immediately post-op.

I didn't have to have a bone density test but each surgeon has different requirements and that may be something that is routine for your dr.  I have however had problems with calcium levels and parthyroid levels since my 6 month check up and now have tot ake calcium pills three times each day (huge pills yuk!).  I have tog o back for more blood tests to check my levels now.  I can't help but wonder if maybe it was an underlying issue before hand since my mom had bone density problems as does my sister.    So glad to hear that you have your date!  Bryan and I will be praying for you!  If there is anything that we can do to help or if you just need to talk we are listed in the Wadesboro phone book, just call anytime! Dont feel bad, I'm 5 years out and just heard about it a couple months ago....  Now I have to find a doc that will give me the test...  My GYN won't do it until I'm 50...  a FEW years to go still...

My Surgery center ordered it as part of the preop testing. I think it is routine at Central Carolina Surgery in Greensboro
