OT Update ... Sarah's surgery post-poned

Her surgery was supposed to be this week, but as it happens, they are postponing her surgery for 2 weeks. We have to come back up because after some tests the Dr determined that they procedure he needs to perform is more involved and requires more OR time than he had available this week. Sarah is such a trooper. She's afraid of the pain, but looking forward to the end result. He has had wonderful results with other patients that have had this syndrome. He's getting the names and numbers of other patients that have gone through this so that we talk with them.

I nearly fainted when the Dr said he wanted to postpone the surgery because it means we have to come back in two weeks. When we come back he wants us to stay for two weeks, then we have to come back at 6 weeks post op. As you can imagine the travel costs associated are just incredible OMG! It's sooooo expensive here. Thank God for Ronald McDonald house! I often put my change in their little change box and from now on I ALWAYS will. They will be putting us up when we come back for the nominal fee of $35/day. I'm soooo grateful. Then we'll need to come back 6 weeks post op. Of course there will still be the air fare, taxi rides to and fro, food, etc... Still I'm so grateful for the help that we will be getting.

We'll be coming back Sunday. In the meantime, I think Sarah and I will try to see a few sites while we are here. We walked 22 NYC blocks yesterday from the Hospital for Joint Desease to Madison Square Gardens ... In 2.5 inch heels no less!!! There is no way I could have done that when we were here last year!

Thanks to all for caring and for the PM's I appreciate your loving support more than I can say.

Barb

Barb: Thank goodness for the Ronald McDonald house for sure. That would be a tremendous strain if you had to pay more than that with all the other expenses.  I am so glad that the doctor knows what he is doing and has a clear plan. Sarah luckily has youth on her side and her recovery I am sure will do ok despite the discomfort of it all.  Try and rleax and enjoy NYC while you can. Please keep us posted! Lisa

Hey Barb: Glad to hear from you!   Without Ronald McDonald house, you would surely be in the poor house as NY surely is not cheap.  The expenses are still awful but we do what we have to for our children.   It sounds like she will have the summer to recooperate which is great. God Bless, Pam

Hey Barb, as they say, things happen for a reason.  So you and Sarah will just be able to spend more, quality time together.  Ronald McDonald houses are so wonderful.  We have one here at our hospital and our church helps to support it.  Sorry about the delay which of course probably drags out Sarah's anticipation of getting it done.  Well, enjoy your time in NY and put come walking shoes on woman!  Luv, Alice

Barb, You give a whole new meaning to the word "Mother".   I'm glad that everything is going well even if it is not going as originally planned.  Hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!  Give Sarah my best!
