I lost 25 pounds while I was on the postop liquid diet. Last Friday I was told that I could start on soft foods. Since then I have not lost anything.Frusated

It is SO normal!!!! And it won't be your last stall either :( I know it is frustrating, but give your body time to catch up with the drastic changes it has gone thru the past month!! It may take a few days, but I PROMISE you will start losing again!! Keep doing what you are doing!!

Yep, Jami is right.  Same thing happened to me.  I hit a 3 week stall at 4 months and it drove me crazy.  Just keep doing what you're doing and it will start coming off again.  Your body is just trying to preserve itself....

Hi Betty,

Ohhhhh, do I remember that feeling of frustration and I had more than a bit of fear that I was the one person this wasn't going to work for ... but we both know how that turned out.

The fact that you started your soft foods stage of your diet and your stall are purely coincidental. Most of us find that we stall somewhere between 2 and 6 weeks out from surgery. This happens for a myriad of reasons, but as Dr. DeMaria explained to me most of us lose in a 'stair step' pattern instead of a 'slide' downhill. He explained to me that it's a part of our bodies natural protection mechanism to try to do everything it can to hold on to the 'precious' food stores we are working so hard to get rid of. Eventually your body loses the battle and you lose pounds. If you haven't done so already, please be sure to check your measurements. Very often, when the scale is being stingy with the numbers, the tape measure is showing progress.

Something that was a great help to me when this would happen, was www.thinnerself.com. I was able to track my progress against others that match my demographics. This really helped me because when I often thought I wasn't doing well, I'd plug in my numbers and find I was ahead of the curve. I'll bet you will too!

Hang in there and stay with the program. You are making progress, even if you can't 'see' it on the scales.

I have been there also....I am just a little over 2 months out and have encountered a few of those brick walls but that to shall pass.   Just keep doing what you are doing and make sure to drink plenty of water and the scale will start to move. Good luck and take care, Pam

A plateau is when you do not lose pounds or inches for FOUR weeks or longer. A stall - most people consider a stall not losing anything for at least 1 week, many say at least 2 weeks without loss. What you are experiencing is normal - you will NOT lose weight daily, you will NOT lose weekly.... just be patient and give the scale a break.

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)
