O k    here is what I did I' m two weeks post op...I was feeling like I wanted something with some taste other than sweet taste...they said I could have strained soup..so I made some pinto beans in the crock pot with only ham broth cubes...i was siping on the broth after they were done ..then I got this big ideal of mashing the beans through a strainer mixed with the broth..it was like a cream soup but not thick.....now today I didnt have a BM and I feel full all day and it is hard to even get all my liquids in because i feel so full.......did i goof up?....~Mary~

I really don't know as my doc did allow me to blend soup and have that.   I did it once and felt like i was cheating and didn't do it again.   If in  doubt, call your Nut. Take care and good luck! Pam

Gosh, I don't know. I stuck to the liquid until they put me on mushy. But if you liqufied it enough it would be like soup.  I was such a chicken about next step foods.  Call  your Dr. or nut if you are afraid. But I would bet you are OK. Sorry I am no help. Good Luck Myrtis

You're fine.  The BM will come.  Just be patient and careful as you reintroduce foods into your diet.  It sometimes takes your bowels a week or so to "wake up" after surgery, so I wouldn't expect to be particularly regular just yet. Keep sipping! Take care. Ellen

Own it all, it's yours!

Hi Mary, Sounds like to me your doing ok. You are going to have that full feeling from a very small amount of most anything at this point. I remeber starting in the hospital with 1oz of broth and felt like I ate a Thanksgiving dinner. Still when in doubt call your NUT who I belive is Patrick at Duke he is very good and knows his stuff.                                            Annie

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

Hi Mary,

When I had my surgery last year, they didn't allow me to consume anything I couldn't see through during my first 3.5 weeks but they may have changed the protocol since then. As Annie said, give Patrick a call. He'll be able to tell you if you should keep on with your current regimen or if there is a corrective action to take.

It's pretty common to have some trouble with BMs in the beginning. I know that I did, but as Ellen mentioned things will 'wake up' and you'll be fine soon.

Give Patrick a call; I'm sure he'll be able to give you a hand and set your mind at ease.
