Anyone had pain in the tailbone area?

About 2 months ago, I noticed that when I've been sitting for more than 15 minutes, my butt hurts bad right where the tailbone is.  At first I just chuckled because I figured it's becasue of losing a lot of fat in my butt.  I have always been one of those pear shapes.    I asked my PCP about it and he really didn't have a good answer for me.  I do plan to talk with Dr. Chapman when I see him.  I'm sure it is not related to the cancer but I will still bring it to his attention.   Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what you did about it.

Hello Alice :)
I of course have not personally experienced this yet, because I have enough padding in the tush to go around and around...LOL But I HAVE seen some posts about this i believe on the main forum and it is due to weight loss in the butt and before the surgery our tailbones were nice and cozy in the fat in our booty's..LOL Then when we lose it goes away and then you are literally sitting on the tailbone!! I would definately ask Dr. Chapman, just to rule out any seriousness, but I just wanted to let you know that I don't think you are alone :)
HOpe you are doing great otherwise!! ((HUGS)) I just found this link to a post of BONY TAILBONE! http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/amos/board_id,4856/cat_id,4456/topic_id,3521127/a,messageboard/action,replies/

I've notices some comfort when I sit. I'm always having to change positions. I don't have much cushion back ther anymore either. Let me know if you find out anything. I did see on Racheal ray the other day you can get a Butt Bra to lift your bootie up. Ha!Ha! Reenie

It happens to the bulk of us, the padding goes and we don't have a ton of muscle there.  The only thing you can do right now is try not to sit directly on it.  I did a lot of switching from cheek to cheek.   For the longer term, you can work the glute muscles to get them to support the tail bone.  I don't notice much pain anymore, since I started at ViQuest.  Take care. Ellen P.S.  Incidentally, I have noticed that not only do I have a tail bone now, but collar bones, ribs, and apparently a sternum.  Some of those things feel abnormal because I couldn't feel them before.  You know in theory that they're there, but when they pop out, it's weird.  My first thought on the sternum was OMG I have a tumor.   The things we go through, eh?

Own it all, it's yours!

Sounds like you are suffering from noassatall syndrome :-) Tailbone pain is normal... as you lose weight you lose padding and your posture will start to improve. If you think about it you will find you dont sit the same because your body isnt the same as it use to be. I had horrible tailbone/butt pain for many months post-op... I started working out more and doing more weight training and that has helped. However, I cannot sit for long periods of time without it hurting nor can I sit in hard chairs for more than a few minutes without it starting to hurt as well. You may want to invest in some sort of seat cushion/back support to see if that will help.

Hi Alice,

I feel your pain ... literally. I actually bought a cushion from Bed, Bath and Beyond just for that problem ... Since, they make and sell these things it's not just us. As Jen said, we are shaped differently than we used to be. I'm working on developing thos glutes, but in the meantime I try to find a padded seat ... who would have ever thought I'd specifically ask for a booth ... They are usually padded. LOL.
