Trip to the Emergency Room
Oh it keeps getting better... all day yesterday I laid flat and was quiet, the headache would not go away, I called the *after hours Cape fear help line* I got a operator who patched me to the on call Radiologist.. she says take some motrin. I take motrin which works about as good as a sugar pill on me, call back later and a different Doctor tells the operator hes busy and will call back later... four hours later... he would be glad to write me a script for Percocet, fine cool BUT I have to go to cape Fear (almost 1 hour 45 min away) to pick it up and they cannot send it to Camp Lejeune.. so my other option is to go to the Camp Lejeune Emergency room... hubby takes me, I have to lay down since im not suppose to be sitting up.. sorry you can have a wheelchair but we have no beds for you or a cot or a hammock or a anything for you to lay on.. I get a blanket and lay down on the stinky nasty carpet...I wait an hour then they call me back to ask me questions.. slap a bracelet on me then its back out to my *bed* on the carpet. *Josephus* a little boy who just turned two keeps running up to me and touching the *ghost* on the floor.. Josephus keeps running and screaming as his mom has brought him to the ER because she gave her friend a ride and is waiting for her friend to be seen.. Josephus throws a toy at me and Im about to scream... hubby puts his legs around me trying to form a cage/barrier so Josephus does not do anymore alpha strikes against my already pounding head with his toys (by the way I love kids, Im just trying to paint a visual for everyones enjoyement) I get called back and get back in a room.
A nurse comes in and says *so you have a headache* yes and did you read anything else about the spinal tap being the cause ect ect? I have to explain it all again, the doctor comes in, real nice guy says he has to START A IV and also gets me some Percocet..I start laughing/crying, I show him all my battle wounds from the day before and he says not to worry... if only it could be that easy.
I start placing bets with hubby on how many sticks it will take till someone gets it right... if I win I get a all expense paid trip around the world plus a new Porsche 911 (my dream car)
Nurse #1 two sticks including hitting a tendon which made me scream and cry and almost spit out a swear word till she yells ou****ch your mouth we have a child in the next room* she tells me pretty soon the ambulances will be rolling in and they dont have time to keep sending people to me all night long to start an IV.. that puts me in a rage I tell her to go find someone who CAN start an IV since shes had her two sticks... she says shes not going to take my abuse and leaves.
Nurse #2 really sweet, gentle and tried her best stuck me three times, each vein blew out.
They call Anesthia down a DOCTOR and I just know he can do it, Captain America walks in and Im praying real hard PLEASE Im in so much pain... he looks at all my bandages from yesterday and from that night... 10 sticks in less then 48 hours.. he tries my arm.. no go.. tries my other arm.. gets it with some flash and then it blows... then puts it in the most uncomfortable worse spot possible.. he warns me it will be painful and a last resort... MY WRIST... he tells me I can swear and scream all I want...I grit my teeth and try to spin my head around like the exorcist thinking it will releive the pain.. hubby is exhausted and has duty the next day (today) its now after 11 pm.... They put a Caffeine drip in me... and the Percocet and the headache leaves... doctor comes in and fills out a script for Percocet and has a Corpsman take out my IV... I get home and pass out.. poor hubby has to be on Duty at 7am till tommorro at 7am... and guess what? This monster headache IS BACK... I call Cape Fear and nowt hey say they might have to do a blood patch.. basically I might be leaking spinal fluid causing the headaches as it should of been GONE by now.... I think I would rather jump off a cliff right now.. soooo just thought I would update you.. I look like a junky with all these bandages on.. my head is pounding so Im off to get drugged up and pass out... please pray for me
Im sorry to whine and complain but I can only take so much and I know you all will listen to me.. thanks everyone, your the best.

I'm so sorry you are going through this!!!! If anyone can relate to this spinal headache, it's me. After the birth of my son, I got one from having had the epidural. It landed me in the hospital for a week. I had the blood patch and it did not help. The only thing that eased the pain at all was the shots of Toradol they would give me every 6 hours.
Out of curiosity, wouldn't you describe this headache as a millions times worse than your migraines? I always try to describe how bad the pain was to other people that may consider getting an epidural, and I can only ever to think to tell them its way worse than any migraine they've ever experienced. One of my friends learned the hard way....she got an epidural even after my story and she got the spinal headache and sorely regretted having had the epidural.
I hope it eases off for you very, very soon. I'll pray that you don't have to go through any more as you've had enough!

You are right the migraine is NOTHING compared to this headache.. this headache surronds the entire head and is sharp and almost knocks me off my feet... way worse and I want to scream!!!! of course the medical personal dont give a crap and think *oh geez another wimp* I explain that I would rather smash my head down on the concrete and that would feel better.

Darcie,
I'm so very sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. The pain is bad enough, but it seems like you are having a terrible time with the medical care and support you have been getting.
Keeping you close in thought and prayer.
Hugs,
Barb
