What a week! Cancer, V-Tac and kidney failure....

CANCER Well, some of you read my post a couple weeks ago about my first colonoscopy, on Monday of this past week, I called the doc to see what the results were of the polyp that was removed.  Yep, it's cancer, in the lower sigmoid colon.  Good news it that it was very small, 0.4 cm; bad news is that they didn't get a clean margin.  SO, I had to go back yesterday for a flex sigmoidoscopy so (yep, another bowel prep on Thursday).   During the procedure yesterday, the doc tattooed or marked the area where the cancer was and then he found another polyp and removed it.  Won't know for about a week what the lab results are for it.  The next step is to go to a surgeon and have the area cut out.  That's why the Gastro doc marked the area, so the surgeon can locate it. I had thought about getting a tattoo after I had lost all my weight, but this was not what I had in mind....  Sounds fun, huh?  Dr. Chapman, who did my RNY will also do my colon cancer surgery.  V-Tac My dear, sweet, hubby has had "spells" of his heart racing for years and like most men, will not go to the emergency dept or doctor.  Actually he has been to the ED twice before with these symptoms and it would stop before he got there.  WELL, Wed afternoon, he was having the worst case of this same racing heart, LOW blood pressure (80/64) and rising heart rate (169) at the time I finally called my boss who is the chair of Emergency Medicine at PCMH/ECU.  He said either get him to the ED or call 911.  I got him there within 20 minutes, we got right in (I'm sure my boss called and told them we were on the way).  They got an EKG and actually were able to record it for the first time. YEAH!  Then a team of 2 doctors and 3 nurses went to work on him to get his heart rate down and get his Ventricular Tachicardia under control.  They succeeded after about 30 minutes and he felt much better.  He was admitted and they ran some tests on Thurs, scheduled others to be done outpatient then let him come home.   Kidney Failure And if this week had not had enough drama, my 96 year old grandmother, who lives beside me with my Mom, was admitted to PCMH, through the ED of course in kidney failure last night.  So, I stayed with her last night in the ED and then got her into a room; slept in the chair for a few minutes.  She will be there for a few days so I've spent the last hours scheduling family to stay with her.  My Mom has Lung cancer and can't stay up there at the hospital all the time.   SO, would you guys please keep me, my darling hubby, Ronnie and my Grandmother and Mom in your prayers?  We really need a break. 

Boy, you have had a hell of a week.  They say things happened in threes and you are already there.  Any idea when your surgery will be scheduled.    My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!    Keep the faith! Take care and God Bless,  Pam

I know, so maybe our luck will turn around now.  I have an apt for my 6 month follow up on May 6th, so I hope to talk with Dr. Chapman then about it.  I'm going to get all the records to his office as soon as I get the labs from the 2nd polyp.  thanks for the prayers!

Dear Alice All of you are so added to our prayer list!  How wonderful that these issues are coming up now rather than 20 or 30 years ago.   Medicine as come such a long way!  My sis-in-law has brest cancer that has moved to her bones, but it is not considered terminal and is instead being treated as a chronic condition!  Wow, what a difference some research makes!
