Update on my sister...and everything else....
They operated on my sister yesterday for her colon cancer. Dr. Kuwada was her surgeon, and bless his heart, he managed to do most of the surgery laproscopically, but did have to make an incision on her lower belly to pull the intestines out and resection them. The surgery was eight hours long, and I know Dr. K and his staff worked feverishly till the end. The bad news is, they saw some spots on her intestinal lining, so they are calling it a Stage 4 Cancer, which isn't good. She's in the Surgical/Trauma ICU at CMC, so I know she's in good hands. She's still intubated, but they plan on weaning her off it tomorrow morning. She doesn't even know about the spread yet. I feel so bad for her.
Because she wants me to keep "on track" with pursuing my WLS, I had my nut/fitness appts. on Tuesday. Both went very well. Jodi is awesome! Very cool NUT! Arielle the fitness trainer seemed surprised that I was "strong"...heck yeah, when you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Today, went to the Sanger clinic (conveniently adjacent to CMC) and had EKG and echocardiograms done. They'll send them to Dr. K and I'm sure he'll let me know about them.
I was informed that Dr. K does require the 2 week liquid preop diet....boy I didn't see that one coming, lol! But I've got a while before I need to worry about that.
Most of my time energy and thoughts are with Trudi right now. I've not even gotten to talk to her b/c they have to keep her so sedated so she won't fight the tube that's down her throat.
Thank you so much for your prayers, but please continue to pray, especially tomorrow when she gets the news. She will have to have chemo once a week for six months, to start with, and then Dr. K says they'll reassess at that point.
Lisa,
I'm so very sorry to hear that your sister's cancer is a stage 4. My thoughts and prayers are with you both as you make your way down this difficult road together.
Warmly,
Barb

Lisa, I am glad to hear that your sister came through her surgery OK, but am so sorry about the Stage 4 diagnosis. Cancer is not a discriminating disease, but you never know how it is going to turn out. We'll pray for a positive outcome for Trudi, I know she has a long road ahead of her. She is blessed to have a sister by her side that is so supportive. That said, I am glad to hear that she wants you to keep on track with your WLS. I'm sure knowing that you have her support helps too. I'll be praying for her and for you as well!
