Where do I start with my PCP?
I have an appt. with my PCP on 5/5 for a physical...It's at that time I plan to tell her about my decision to have WLS. I don't know her very well because I've only seen her 3 times. I have other issues going on right now. I had a c-section in 9/07 that never healed...I'm working with a wound care center to get it fixed, but they haven't been able to get the infection clearned up in the last two months either. I'm sure as soon as she sees that the c-section is STILL not healed that will be her ONLY focus. My surgeon wasn't overly concerned about it, but if she won't address the WLS would you go to another PCP?

My opinion is if your doctor isn't working with you....there is always someone else! You really need a primary care who knows about your surgery. I know mine is very supportive and is behind me 100 percent. If you know anyone in your town that has had surgery you should ask them who their primary care doctor is.
Good Luck

You dont always need PCPs blessing for WLS.. it helps if they are for you because they can write a letter to the insurance on your behalf, but again its typically not necessary.
I would just talk to your PCP and see what happens, then make decisions based on the visit you have.

I think part of the problem could be your PCP may never had a wt problem and doesn't know what other obstacles we have besides possible future medical issues. My PCP is chunky but has lost a lot of wt and has been in our shoes...think that makes a huge difference.
I agree you don't necessarily need the blessing of your PCP but I know I needed her support. Especially when I had issues afterwards and she found out what my problem was. Think we need to be a team with our PCP but that is just my opinion.
Take care and good luck, Pam
