Low Ferritin Iron Saturation x post

Just got my labs back from my 2 year post-op visit.

My Ferritin Serum level was 1. The reference range is 10-291.

I have an appt scheduled with a hematologist for possible IV iron supplementation.

Any one have experience with iron infusions. I'm curious as to what I should be expecting.

Previously I have been anemic, but have not needed supplemental iron. I take my vitamins faithfully.

Thanks for any info.

Belinda

I had a iron infusion last week, my first ( two years post op )... it was not bad at all... went in they hooked up a IV did a little tester dose to make sure my body did not react ,, then  the bag went in. took ALL DAY but , the place I went ( Mecklenburg Medical ) had TV , comfortable recliners and wonderful nurses, I took a long nap during most of it. It was fine. Take care  Allison

Good luck tomorrow! You will feel so much better moving around after the pannus is removed. Thanks for responding.   Do you know what your Ferritin level was? I wonder how they determine how many infusions are needed.  There is a housekeeper at the hospital I work at that had to have multiple infusions. I hate to ask her any questions she is a brewing pot of negativity.  Belinda
