I had my surgery on 4/7. Today is my first day going to 3 meals and 2 snacks....which I am glad for because right now, eating feels like a chore.   I boiled a chicken tenderloin with a little sea salt and rosemary. It went down really well---of course I chewed it until it evaporated I guess since this is new to me, just wondering what first foods you guys tried with success.  Also, does any body have any suggestions or tricks to getting all your fluids in.  My doc and dietician suggest at least 48 oz daily.

I did eat a very small part of a grilled burger and chewed like crazy and didn't have any problems with it.  Deli turkey which I ask for shaved was also very easy and a quick meal.   I still have Carnation Instant Breakfast as it is an ez breakfast and also counts as 8 oz towards my fluids.  Since I was a coffee person, I also drink  oz of decaf (well sometimes i cheat and drink 1/2 caffeine) and then 2 bottles of water in a day which adds up to 48.  My nut says to get to 64 and i am usually somewhere between 48 and 64.  I drink crystal light and Propel as it is much easier to get down.   I always drank a ton of plain water but since surgery I don't care for it.   I also still eat cottage cheese as high in protein and an ez lunch.   As for protein, I stil have difficulty getting to 80 so I do drink a 3 oz protein bullet. Good luck on your new journey!  It is very exciting even though we hit roadblocks (or plateaus) along the way. Pam

I had my surgery on 4/10/08 and still can't have meat  I am counting down the days until Thurs. though! *L*  Then I think I'll have a turkey sandwich!....probably 1/2 a turkey sandwich if I'm lucky but dad gum there'll be meat in my future! Still struggling w/ the fluids but each day I get a little closer to the 48ozs.  I think I am up to like 40ozs today....

The first successful foods are different for everybody - I suggest you just keep trying trying trying - are you on soft foods or cleared for all foods? Good soft foods are soft cooked chicken, tuna/chicken w/a lil mayo, refried beans, soups, cottage cheese, yogurts etc. As for water - just always have it on hand... drink n drive... sit at work and sip... I get in 8oz of liquids during my 30-40ish min drive to work - another on the drive home... I keep a biiig bottle of water on my desk and when I am not eating/waiting to eat I am sip sip sipping. As time passes it will get easier because you will heal and be able to tolerate more - so just do the best you can for now and always be sipping.

Go to the main forum and look up Eggface's website.  She has lots of WLS-friendly recipes for early on.  Like he breakfast bites.  High in protein and flavor, virtually no carbs.  Cottage cheese pancakes are also a favorite of mine.  She has that recipe as well.
