First, thank you to all of those who showed love and support on my last post! Recovery for surgery was hard. Probably the most painful surgery I've ever had. But a few hours after surgery, I was up and I "scootched" a little away from the bed. I was up walking the next day. I did everything I was suppose to do and all the nurses said they were proud of me.     I'm having a really hard time with diarrhea and nausea. It started two days after surgery. The diarrhea got worse and I thought would be better if I didn't eat anything. I found out that was the wrong idea. Through trial and error, I found out that Boost works best with me. It's not too bad.     Pain wise I'm pretty good. Other than the left size under the breast. It still hurts pretty bad, but I'm off my pain meds. They made me sleep all day.        I'm seriously having a problem with not eating! I didnt know I was gonna miss food so much. I've always had a food obsession but now that I can't have it, it's all I think about. I can barely get excited about losing weight because of it. I sort of regret having the surgery because I'm never going to eat a regular meal again. I hope this feeling goes away soon!     Sorry about the super long post!                                                                                              -Shelly-

Sorry you are having a hard time of it. But, it does get better. You are not giving food up forever. You just will not be eating as much. I don't miss the sugar and fat. And think it is wonderful to be full with only a few bites. I appreciate what I eat more and make sure I choose things with flavor. You will get to this point also. It will not be that far down the road. Just get through the next couple of weeks and you will be telling another person, just out of surgery, the same things. It will get better. God Bless Myrtis

Shelly, I went through "food withdrawl" too.  What you are feeling is perfectly normal but don't worry.  You will be able to eat regular food again in the future, just not huge portions at one time!!!  Take today for example. My sweetie and I stopped on the way home from my doctor's appointment to eat at a mexican restaurant.  He wanted fajitas so we ordered a single serving of chicken and beef and I picked out the chicken and ate about 1/4 of the refried beans from his plate.  He ate the beef, rice and the rest of the beans.  It was sooooo good and I left there feeling just as stuffed as if I had eaten the entire portion by myself.  The best part of the whole experience was that it only cost about $12.00 for both of us to eat!!  How cool is that???  And trust me, you really won't miss what you can't have as time goes on.  Use this time to relearn how to eat healthy and take good care of your body.  This feeling will pass!!   Hang in there! Hugs, Donna :-)

Just as everyone has said, this is completely normal!!! Those first few weeks were very hard for me also-- the cravings for food don't go away just b/c you can't eat it... Just as the others have said though-- you will be able to eat good food again, just in smaller portions... It will all come back with time and you will still be able to lose weight!!!  We have all been where you are now, so we know how it feels! Really try to focus on the good you have done for yourself-- think of all the things you can do once you recover-- be more active, fit in "regular" size clothes, etc... make your own list and fanaticize about doing those things! I know it sounds weird, but it will help!!!!!!  Think about wearing that bikini or getting that "look" from someone... It will get better, just keep telling yourself that and remember we are all here for you!!!  Hang in there girl-- that weight will start falling off and you'll be feeling better in no time!!!

Hey Shelly,  Glad to hear you are doing better.   The weird thing for me was I was a vulture when I got cravings before surgery but since, I really am not hungry and just eat cuz it's time.   I recently started to get head hunger during stress but since my stomach is never hungry, I know this is head hunger.    I had a friend who had WLS a few years ago and she struggled with stress eating.  What worked for her was going back to her psychologist and learning the difference and how to redirect those cravings.  You may get past it but if not, please know there is help with your psychologist.   I am only 2 months out of surgery and eating all the right foods I ate before but my fear of dumping have kept any cravings or head hunger I have at bay.    Take care and good luck,  Pam

Shelly My pain is in the same place.  I don't regret a thing.  I have mostly pain under the left breast.  I have taken my pain meds once in the afternoon and then right before bed.  I havent had a bowl movement yet.  I don't feel like that I need to go either.  I have been mostly doing the instant carnation breakfasts as my protein.  I am working on the advantage edge tonight and I am not feeling the taste of it.   I called yesterday for my 3 week appointment and was given a date 3.4 weeks out.  I was disappointed. But, will make it. Please hang in there.  We will be able to eat food again.  If we can't eat it all at one time we can eat it slowly all day.  Like everyone else has said we will just have to make the right food choices which I am looking forward to.  I have been craving avacados since yesterday.  I looked it up on line and cant wait to eat it.  Hope my pouch likes it. Keep in touch Thanks Liz
