Putting the brakes on ... xpost

Hi All,

I'm not exactly sure where to go to get some help here.

I am just over 10 months out and I've just about reached goal, but I'm still losing even though I'm trying not to. I've upped my total calories to about 1500/day and my breakdown is about 30protien/30fat/40carb.

Any suggestions?

Barb

Hi Barb, I am no expert but I am thinking about your situation my idea is maybe you should up the carbs. I try to stay around 60-100 a day many days I do less. BTW how is your mom doing? Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.                                         Annie

Hi Annie,

Thanks for asking about my mother. She is doing okay. She has some health issues that we are working on, but in general she's doing okay and we are enjoying our visit.

I look forward to seeing you too.

I recommend a metobolism test. My Nut offers the Med Gem. Most fitness centers also offer metobolism testing. I can eat way more than I thought to maintain. 1700 to 2100 calories depending on exercise. My weight loss zone is between 1300 and 1600 calories. It is such a useful tool. We are all so different. It was also good to know that I have a higher than average metobolism.   Would have been interesting to know what it was at my highest weight. I had one at 1 year post op and another at 2 years post op. I doing the test, but plan on doing it every year. Belinda

Hi Belinda,

Thanks for your suggestion. I may look into it. I hadn't scheduled one yet because I'm not yet a year post op, but since I do want to quit losing it may be worth looking into.

Thanks,

Barb

Tell ya what.. We'll switch up metabolisms.  That way I can keep losing and you can maintain. How's that work for you?  ;-) See ya Saturday.

I have a friend who after meeting her goal was still losing.  Her doc (also my surgeon) told her to eat an additional small meal each day.

I would suggest the metabolism test as well. I am currently eating the same - 30%protein/30fat/40carbs... I was only eating around 1000 calories and my metabolism test said I needed 1800 to stop losing. I am working on getting 1400 consisntantly and have no clue how to eat the 1800+ - its a lot of dern food!!!  How long have you been doing the 1500 calories? My NUT said it could take a little bit for the weight to slow/stop when you up... I think she told me give it about 2-4 weeks? I dont remember. Not sure what your goal is but if you lose a little more would you still be of a normal BMI? Perhaps your body will slow down soon enough? Hard to say. Its definately a 'game' to get it all figured out!

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1

Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

Jen,

Thanks for your response. I've been doing the 1500 calories for about 3 weeks or so. If it doesn't even out soon, I may up it again. I was trying to hold out on the metabolism test until I hit my 1 yr anniversary.

You are right when you say that even if I lose some more weight I'll still be in the normal range, but I'm honestly getting thinner than I'm 'comfortable' with ... maybe my comfort level will change with time, but unlike you, I don't have youth on my side and I'm starting to go from looking younger to looking older as I have more skin sagging ... It just really makes me uncomfortable.

I'll be calling my RD today to see if I can get some more input from him.

Thanks again for your input, support and commiseration.

Even thou I am younger I still feel you! Now that is bathing suit season I have been shopping and definately feel I looked better in my suit last summer than this... Im too the point that more weight loss means more wrinkles, jiggle and sag *sigh* oh well :-)  Your body may just hit a point where its comfortbale.. keep in mind many people experience that 10% regain so going a *little* lower may not be so bad if you are going to come right back up.  My only other suggestion if you are going to wait on the metabolism test is to add another bread/starch carb serving... if that doesnt work then add another. It will add more calories and should help the weightloss... I know you are doing the 40% carbs already but if its mostly from fruits, veggie, dairy then the additional bread/starch should help!
