Just starting my journey and already I'm unsure of myself
Today I met with my surgeon, Dr. Pirrello, for the first time. He is FANTASTIC!!! I went to my consult with my DH (that stands for DUMB HUSBAND)...LOL...He was asking the dumbest question about tummy tucks and other things that I just did not care about. I'm sure the doctor was thinking, "well thank god one of them is educated." I was trying to tell the doctor, without my husband understanding, that I also have stress incontinenence...Well he heard me and said, "what's that?"...The doctor answered his question and my DUMB husband says "You've been peeing yourself???" LOL Well anyway, my BMI is 43 but it's only been over 40 for two years. It's been over 35 for 5 years. We spoke at great lengths about LapBand, RNY, and the Fobi Pouch. Dr. Pirrello said I would be a candidate for any of the proedures. We talked about the Fobi Pouch and he showed me what it looks like, but I'm going to look to all of you for some help...Have any of you had it or know anyone who has? Sounds like it's just a way to reinforce the pouch to prevent me from stretching it out. I asked my doctor if he thought he could get it approved and he said my insurance was very easy to get it approved and said this, "if I asked them to approve me putting a cremcicle in there, they would." He said that I don't need to lose any weight, but if I gain any he will cancel the surgery. I agree with that!!! Any opinions about the Fobi Pouch???
Welcome! I have the fobie pouch and it was done by Dr. Bauman from the same office. I am extreamly happy with it but there are lots of people here with the lap band just as happy as I. All I can say is do your research on both and ask lots of questions. I have had no complications so far. I also have no complaints. Just do what your surgeon and nut. tell you.
The decision is all yours......good luck
Myrtis
I had the Fobi pouch surgery 8/7/07. My surgeon was Dr. Bauman (same office). I have lost 90 lbs and feel wonderful. Do your due diligence before you decide. But like Myrtis said "listen to your DR and your NUT". They know what you need and what your body needs to be successful. You will be in good hands with these surgeons and NorthEast is a great hospital. GOOD LUCK!! Dianne

I had RNY with Fobi pouch. It was done by Dr. P. I have had no problems and since my surgery my husband now has a date to get the same thing April 28th. He is so shocked with my success and how well I have done. He requested Dr. P. It was funny all my DH told Dr. P at his first visit was I want done to me exactly what you did to my wife.
I didn't get the Fobi for fear I'd need another surgery eventually. And I was scared it could cause me to have some unwanted nausea. I'm happy with my choice to just have the RNY.
That being said.. just remember that Lap Band is not permanent and is completely reversible. This surgery is a major change, for the better of course, but it's permanent. Make sure you make the right choice for yourself.
I suggest going to the May support group meeting at the hospital - call the office and ask what the date and time is. It's in classrooms 1-3. It's supposed to be an open forum next month. Off hand I can't think of the date, but I believe it's the first Tues of the month.. 6pm. Some people show up earlier just to catch up.
You can talk to others and get their input. :)
