Hello all,  I have a question and I hope you all might have some good advice. I had my rny done back in 2001. I started have horribble stomach pains and was put in the hospital back in 2004. They found out then that I had to get iron and b-12 shots every month. Also I had to get a blood transfusion then. I went to many many doctors trying to get help to find out why my stomach hurts so bad. They finally found an ulcer. so they put me on meds to help the ulcer and the pain never has gone a way. So about a month ago I was rushed to the hospital and they found that I had a gi bleed. They gave me blood and more ulcer meds and sent me home. Know the pain in my stomach is so bad I can't even breath every breath I take it hurts. My doctor that was on the case from the hospital told me that there was nothing he could do for me and that I would have to live this pain for the rest of my life. How can I live like this no energy I have no life in me and in pain every second of the day. I look like the walking dead due to having no color in my face and all I want to do is sleep. But I can't because I hurt so much. This is hurting much more then me it is hurting my family too. I can;t go on like this. So Do any of you have any idea's Thanks chelly

I am sorry you are having a rough time. Have you tried to seek out another surgeon to see if they could help you? Seems like you have a few different issues.. the stomach pain should be unreleated to the iron and b-12 shots. The low energy is more than likely related to your vits/supps - whens the last time you had bloodwork? Did it come back ok? Are you taking your vits/supps as directed? You should be taking a multi vitamin and calcium daily (calcium citrate, not carbonate) in addition to the iron and you b12 shots.  Are you still on the ulcer medicine? Did the ulcer heal previously? Have they considered food allergies? IBS?? Im suprised the doctor just brushed you off - did they suggest getting a reversal? There just has to be options besides just live with it. I am not familiar with surgeons that do reversals but I am sure you could find one. Even if a reversal isnt the answer they could possibly help figure out whats going on.  I would start calling local surgeons and see if one could take you on as a patient or direct you to somebody that could help.

Hello, Yes I am on ulcer meds and no it is not getting any better. They have had me on every combo of ulcer meds you can think of and nothing thing it gets better and then it gets worse. I had blood work done about three weeks ago and Every thing was low. I get my blood work done about every month because of the iron infusions and b-12 shots. Also I am high allgeric (sp) to iron and I have to do a steroid prep before I take the infusions also. Yes do vitmans with out iron. Still have no energy and I look like death even with make up on. Yes my gastro that the hospital gave me no hope and told me to live the pain. No allergery (sp) to food just medications. I am at loss. Today I a mgoing to try to find some one to help me. Thanks Chelly .

I am so sorry to hear this.  You absolutely need to find another doctor.  My PCP is in internal medicine and is not afraid to refer  me to specialists when he is stumped.  As Jenn has recommended, I would get a complete blood panel run, including nutritional reads, and start from there.  Pain is a symptom that tells you something is going on.  You need to find out what is going on.  GI bleeding and ulcers is not normal and needs to be treated.  I wish there were medical advocates we could go to when we are in distress who could proactively pursue the solution for us, but I don't think such people ezist.  So you need to focus what energies you have on finding someone who can address your symptoms and find out what is causing them and correct that condition.  And I would start NOW.  Please. Please keep us posted on your progress and thanks for sharing with us.

Sorry to hear of your terrible ci****tances. Have any Doctors checked the unused portion of your stomach. I've heard that bacteria can build up in the leftover unused portion of your stomach. I believe I read that it is painful, I only read this somewhere. I could not tell you if its true or not. I think I read it on a list of complications somewhere. Hope you can get this workred out. I feel bad for you. Peace, Karla
