Sooooooo Tired!
Ok, I'm 18 days out from RNY. Doing fine-as far as I know- except for one thing. I went back to work after 2 weeks (last Friday) and since then, I have been extremely tired and "achy" in the afternoons. The body aches feel similar to the flu, but I have no other symptoms. I'm trying very hard to get in all my protien, water, etc. and I have recently started "some" soft foods with good results. Is this normal and will it ever pass?
I think it is normal as I was exhausted most of the time in the first month and I don't even really work ( I am a realtor and in the cold weather just play at working) A trip to Walmart would exhaust me. You must be a very strong woman to be able to go back to work so soon and it is as far as my experience normal to be tired
Sandra Mannaravalappil......The Best Darn Chubby Realtor in Charlotte LOL
Yes its normal and yes it will pass.
Anesthesia is very hard on the body and can stay there about 6 weeks or so... add to it the malnutrition and you have a great combo for being tired (not to mention the fact you had MAJOR surgery 18 days ago!)
First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)
1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)
Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011
BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014
Scar revision on arms - 3/2015
HALO laser on arms/neck 9/2016
Thigh Lift 10/2020
Thigh Lift revision 10/2021
Based on my experience it is normal and it will pass. I felt extremely tired and weak late afternoons. I chocked it off to so few calories on the all liquid diet part. Once I started having more calories I began to feel better.
I went back to work after two weeks as well. Just remember to not push yourself too hard. Stop when your body tells you to stop.
Keep up the great work!
Becky :)
Completely normal! I was totally exhausted for a good 6 weeks. And I don't work either, so I bow down to those of you that go back to work after 2 weeks! Now that I'm almost 6 months out, I wish I was back at work, but that's a story for another day.
Anyway, as others have said, you need to keep in mind that not only have you had major surgery, but your body is in shock because you're not feeding it like you used to. When you get super tired...rest...you need it!
So, yes, your exhaustion is normal and yes, it will pass with time.
Totally normal. You went back to work very soon after MAJOR surgery and the additional strain of malnutrition on your body, as well as possible dehydration which will really take the wind out of your sails! Please be sure to get you b vitamins in as well as plenty of fluids, and get plenty of rest! At least 8 hours a day of sleep! We tend to make things so hard on ourselves. It's bad enough you are back at work, take good care of yourself in all other areas. This will pass as you build back your strength.
I went back to work after 3 weeks and returned to work on a Tuesday. By the time Friday came, I couldn't get out of bed as so exhausted. I took that day off. Last week I was able to make it the entire week but did go to the doc and they checked all my blood levels which were fine. Today is my 5 week anniversary and I am finally starting to feel almost normal. I am still in bed by 8:30 to read and lights off by 9:30 and i pass out. I get up at 5:30 and NEED the full 8 hours of sleep or i am worthless! My doc told me we are weak from the surgery and anesthesia plus the reduction in calories and by pushing ourselves, we are actually helping to build our strength back up. If you look back at my post a week or 10 days ago, I sounded just like you. This too shall pass my friend but it is a rough start!
Take care, Pam
