no sugar added
Can anyone tell me does " no sugar added" not contain sugar or just no extra sugar? I was in the grocery store looking for sugar free ice cream that the nut. says I can have and everything has "no sugar added". Nothing said "Sugar Free". So I was wondering are those products ok to eat?
Thanks
Melissa

Thanks that helps some. I just get so confused at the grocery store. Why can't they just label it "This has no REAL sugar in it". I know that sometimes things say no sugar added and they have a ton of natural sugar. So I was confused. I seen some food lion brand that says no sugar added. I just want to make sure before I spend the money cuz I am sure my kids aint gonna eat it. Well maybe the 2 yr old, I swear I shoulda named him Mikey. He eats anything
Thanks again

Sugar is sugar thats why- it doesnt matter if you are eating a table spoon of white sugar or a piece of pineapple - sugar is sugar.
Most no sugar ice cream or low carb ice cream is pretty gross IMO - you have to watch the amount of sugar alcohol as well, many people are senstitive to it, or to it in certain amounts. Personally I stay away from sugar alcohols because if I eat them I stink :-) my BF (nonWLS) cannot eat them as well... I bought the Bryers Low Carb ice cream and it wasnt pretty for either of us!

Your kids may like this....it is surprisingly good! You can always check and if it has fructose or sucrose...those are sugars. You can also check the sugar grams on the label. If they have less than 5, a diabetic can eat them so i would think they would be good enough for us. You may want to ask your Nut.
Good luck! Pam
Hey Melissa,
I know the "no sugar added" is just that, it has sugars that are naturally contained in fruit or whatever type you're interested in, but it doesn't contain any "added" sugar. A lot of ice creams and juices have more sugar to make it sweeter tasting.
Hope this helps!!!

Milk has sugar. Lactose is the natural sugar. Ice cream is made with milk. So it has natural sugar. I usually stick to no sugar added vanilla. It has the least calories.
I also like Blue Bunny Sweet Freedom Fudge Lites. This is the best fudge bar out there and only has 35 calories each.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I have just had a taste for ice cream for a couple wks now. My 4 yo would eat ice cream day and nite if I would let him. I never knew how tempting it was to eat some while I fix his. I have resisted so far, only by the power of something far greater than my own will power.
Thanks again

Hi Melissa,
I do at times have SF ice cream in one sugar cone.
I never thought I would be happy with 4oz of ice cream but I am now and it is totally satisfing.
Also know that many products that say sugar free are sweetend with baby laxitives on many cartons it will say MAY HAVE LAXATIVE EFFECT.
So stick with the 4oz.
Also I get food from Schwans and they have individual 100 calorie cups of ice cream and this works out well for me.
