Cottonmouth and other things

Has anyone suffered from morning cottonmouth since surgery. I hardly ever woke up with a dry mout before surgery, now it is an everyday thing. I wake up and think I am going to choke before I can get to the bathroom and brush my teeth and drink some water. Is this normal? Also I have a ton of bruises. I have them on my legs, arms and even my toe. Who gets bruises on their toes?!?! Can that be because of the blood thinner? And my last thing I want to mention , i dont guess it hurt me but I was scared . Yesterday at church when the communion plate came around I didnt exactly know what to do. I knew the little cracker wouldnt hurt but I was so worried about the juice. I knew it wouldnt be low sugar or sugar free. I prayed that it wouldnt make me sic****il after church and I took the cup. I didnt get sick at all. I just wondered was it cuz there probably isnt much sugar in the tbsp you actually drink? But I will tell you it was the first time I ever had to take it in 2 swallows, and I think that was because I was nervous and I am so used to taking small sips now. Anyways.... just my thoughts for today.  Melissa

Hi Melissa -

The cottonmouth issue is probably from slight dehydration. Be sure that you are getting in at least 64 ounces of fluid a day. That should ease the cottonmouth feeling.

The bruising is not uncommon and according to my Dr., mine was related to the blood thinners I was given during surgery. I know it's un-nerving, but it will get better soon.

I wouldn't worry about taking communion. I doubt that the small amount of wine and wafer will harm you, but you should check with your Dr's office just to be sure.

I hope that you are doing well.

Have a lovely day,

Barb

Thanks for the info Barb. I am trying to get the fluids in. I am sure that some days I dont get enough in. But it seems like I am sipping all day. And as for the bruises I could understand if I remembered getting them but I think if someone looks at me hard I am going to bruise. LOL I will try harder to drink more. Thanks again  Melissa

Melissa -

I understand and I know that it can be disconcerting ... Honestly, if you have any concern at all, please call your Dr. You won't be bothering him.

It will pass soon.

Take care,

Barb

I started to get cotton mouth ....but it was from dehydration. Be sure that you are getting all your fluids in . I even have 2 water bottles at my bed side because  I wake up at night thirsty.  BUT  I HOPE THAT EVERYTHING IS OK WITH YOU AND I WISH YOU ALL TEH BEST.                                                                                                                  Stephanie

Thanks for the info. I know I dont get enough fluids most days. But I thought I was pretty close. I had a bottle of water next to my bed at one time but I sleep so sound I think I would have to be choking before I would wake up to drink any.Of course then my night stand got covered with clothes that need to be put away too. One day I promise to my kids they wont have to get clean clothes out of a laundry basket, they will actually be in their drawers! Thanks again Melissa

I get cotton mouth sometimes also. I assumed it was due to not enough fluids. I was brused around the incisions but no where  else.As far as the wine at communion....I had the same fear but it turned out OK. It is such a small amount of wine.  Myrtis
