This morning I went for a Resting and Exertion metabolism test at the YMCA as well as to find out my target heart rate. It was an excellent experience... the testing was very simple, the resting you sit and breath into the machine, the exertion you are on a treadmill (or bike) breathing into the machine. After I received printouts of all the information and how to use it. The two ladies doing the test also explained everything and went into simple nutrition explaination. So heres the background....My NUTs maintenance plan is 1000-1200 calories per day. She said if I kept losing to up the calories some by adding an additional bread carb. Here is what my metabolism test showed RMR (what my body burns just to survive) 1411 calories Lifestyle + Additional (calories burned performing daily activities) 423 calories Exercise (calories burned for 20 minutes of moderate exercise) 176 calories So in the course of a day I burn approx 1834 calories as long as I get 30 mins of moderate exercise.  Here is the breakdown of the calories Maintenance Zone 1411-1834 calories Weight Loss Zone 1129-1411 calories Soooooo basically I need to eat more :-) I end up typically around 1100 calories a day...so I am below the weight loss zone, I am going to start food logging Monday and work on getting my calories towards the 1300 range and see what happens. As for the Heart Rate I wont bore you with the details but I got a breakdown of where my fat burning zone rates are as well as my carbohydrate burning zone. My metabolism was 'normal' for somebody of my age/height/weight and my Fitness Leve came out as Good (the leves were very low, low, fair, good, excellent and superior).

Wow!  Thanks for sharing Jennifer!  It sounds like a great experience, and definitely an eye-opener!  I think we could all benefit from a specific individualized test that will give us our own results!  Once I get down to goal and am ready to start maintaining, I'll definitely be seeking out the same kind of thing.  Good luck with upping your calories...let us know how it goes!

Jennifer -

Thanks so much for sharing this information. It's great to know that after WLS we can be 'normal' if we work at it.

Congratulations on the great feedback.

Thanks again,

Barb
