My sister is coming for a visit in a few weeks and is dying to go to a real, authentic southern barbeque joint. (She wants to torture me, I suppose.) Can anyone recommend a really good one? I'm over near Wilmington but will travel, oh, an hour or so. Ideas?? Thanks

Well, Greenville is more than an hour away - but I thought I'd answer anyway. haha B's Barbeque in town is loved by many... Bbq sounds mighty yummy. Especially considering I've been so sick today I've only eat 4ozs of chicken noodle soup. (don't worry I got my protein in by adding a protein bullet to my cyrstal light). Becky

Ayden has Pete Jones BBQ, which has been featured on the Food network, Southern Living Mag and several other media....  but there has to be a good place closer to Wilmington!

Peanie, You had better define "barbeque."  Do you mean NC barbecue which is like pulled pork that has been cooked with a spicy vinegar?  Or do you mean like a rib joint that has more traditional honey/smoked/tomatoey sauce type of barbecue?  To the typical NCers, it means the pickled stuff and I think that is just plain nasty!  LOL.  For the other kind, I hear Sticky Fingers is good in Wton.

I second the B's Barbeque in Greenville.  It's a hole in the wall, but the BBQ is fantastic.  There's nothing wrong with BBQ for you, just try to stick to the meat itself.   That's really far to drive though... Ellen

Own it all, it's yours!

Being a native of NC there is only one way to eat bbq and thats with vinegar. I havent had it but I asked some ppl in Wilmington where the best was and they told me Curly's ( I think that is right) I know it is over on Oleandar before you get to college. It looks like a hole in the wall but they are always the best places. We import our bbq from Reidsville which is where we moved from last yr and Short Sugar's will always be the best to us.
