Antibiotics after RNY ?

Who's had the misfortune of needing antibiotics since surgery?

I'm pretty sure my sinuses are infected now and I'm developing bronchitis to boot. I think I'll ask for Augmentin Liquid when I go along with an albuterol inhaler. I used to deal with this all the time before I had my tonsils out 4 years ago. there's not too much sugar in the Augmentin generic that we carry here so I should be ok as long as I put some food in my pouch first.

So if you've taken antibiotics since an RNY, what'd you take and how did it treat you?

I have taken antibiotics since my RNY and it worked the same as before. I also take Zoloft and it's effect has not changed, I remember my doctor telling some medications work different so maybe that is the deal, I have not really had anything changed in the pill department but, Advil's effect is shorter lived ( YES I know we are not to use Advil, but my dr said I could take it a couple times a month to hold back the pain I experence with THE CURSE ) .....  good luck and I hope you feel better soon Happy Day 2 all

Thanks for your reply hon. It's good to know that the effects of your meds have not changed.

I just had a bout with strep.  We started out with a Zith-pack then went to Clindamycin.  When those did not work in pill form because of the transit through my system I ended up with  a shot of Rocefin in the butt.  It did the trick.   I have to take antiobiotics before dental treatment for mitral valve prolapse.  Since I am allergic to Penicillin I wonder what I will do now.  My FP has given me a prescription for Keflex which I can take but if I take it like he prescribed it then it will be 4 capsules at one time the morning of my dental appointment.  I don't think that is going to work--I think it will make me very sick.

They make a Keflex liquid, that might be a better option for you.

I'm taking Augmentin liquid, I just started today. I checked the package insert to check on the sugars and the only sugars in there are bulking agents, which is methylcellulose... about the same as tree bark...LOL. It's a fiberous sugar that doesn't effect the glycemic index which is good for anyone who may have issues with dumping. Oh, I should also say that this is the Generic Augmentin (there are many companies that make it now), so if anyone else needs to take this, you should still check with the pharmacist before hand about the sugars in whatever brand you receive Before you try it. Different companies will use different inactive ingredients.

Well I wished to not be cold anymore, but I didn't mean I wanted a fever though! I've been about to burn up for 2 days...LOL. Off to put on some shorts and a tank and get outta this hot robe!
