Sharing your starting weight....

When did y'all finally "confess" your starting weight?  I really am apprehensive about telling anyone how much I weighed when I started.  I'm sure when I'm nice and comfy on the loser's bench I will feel more comfortable, but right now It is still a big secret for me to keep. Susan

((((Susan)))),

There is no 'right' answer for this. You need to do what's most comfortable for you. I shared my weight statistics right off the bat, but as you will soon learn I'll share almost anything. Others are more private and that's just fine too. You may see tickets that show weights, but you can also create ticker that just shows how much you've lost ... and of course, you don't even need to do that. This is your journey and you need to make it work for you.

Congratulations on a smooth start to journey to a healthier you.

Barb

P.S. Lisa was up here in Raleigh yesterday for the monthly Get Together and it made think of you. I hope that we'll be able to meet in person sometime soon. B

Looking forward to meeting you as well, Barb!  Lisa said I could tag along as soon as I felt well enough to join her.  She said there may be shopping involved, so I am way on board for that!  I just sneezed for the first time and thought I was going to die!  Looking forward to my insides stabilizing a bit. :)  Hope you are doing well!!!

Hi Susan -

Thanks. I am well and I look forward to when you feel up to a day a galavanting around with us. Lisa and I have made this a monthly event ... that is when she makes it up here ... and to be honest, she usually does.

I'm so sorry about the sore tummy, but rest assured that this too shall pass.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

As soon as I had surgery, it was much easier to share my starting weight.  For me its been kinda therapeutic.  All my life people have said things like "you have such a pretty face... you carry your weight so well... I would never guess you weight that much".  I know they were all trying to be nice and to make me feel good but the truth is that I was fat... very fat.  I needed to face that fact and fully embrace it before I was ready to really do something about it.  Its embarrassing to admit my starting weight when asked but it also helps keep me determined and focused.  Good Luck Christy

Oddly enough, Christy, my husband actually asked yesterday when I got off the scale.  I would really like to know what he THINKS I weigh before I tell him how much I actually weight.  At one point he said something like, "It's not like I don't know how much you weight."  The good news is, he loves me either way, but it is still hard busting out with "the number".

Hey Susan: I know exactly how you feel.  My starting wt was 328 and the only persons i shared that with was my daughter and my mother.  Oh, I also shared with a gal at work who is going to do WLS in a few months.   Still haven't told my husband or son.   My husband could care less if i weigh 100 or 300 and has made that clear but I still can't go there.   Right after I had my surgery, i created a ticker and had no problem sharing on the forum.    We all have our own issues and you will know when it is right for you to share and where to start.   We are all here for you regardless! Take care, Pam

Just remember...  It is a number that is IN THE PAST!!!   Say your number proudly and just let everyone be amazed at how well you are doing NOW!!  This is your time.  Don't let anything get you down.  THAT NUMBER IS HISTORY!    loser-9.jpg image by CackysGirl Keep up the good work!  Connie

Hi Susan.  I think that you will find that the more you lose, the easier it becomes to share your start weight.  I freely share mine, I'm proud of the 235 I've lost so far.  As my signature says, own it all, it's yours. Take care. Ellen

So far only you faithful wls people know my different weights. I feel like ya'll understand how I feel and No one.....not even my DH knows my top weight or any weight I ahve touched on so far. I just can't face it. My top weight was 334 and my pre wls was 284....now I am 242.   It is very hard for me to admit those numbers. Someday I will confess.  It is all by our own personal choice.
