After going to the meetup in Raliegh someone made a very good statement and that was carbs make you hungrey. I dont want to feel like that. So I am wondering  what is the limit of carbs some of you allow yourself each day?                                     Annie

Annie, That is a great question, My husband I just came back from the store and while we were there I told him I had no idea about carb limits.  Thanks for asking this question,  I can't wait to hear the answers, very interesting.

Yes, my little pouchie poo likes crunchy stuff too. I'm like a toddler with her little baggy of Cheerios. They make a yummy snack...after, of course, my protein is in. *wink* (OK - not always...)

I'm sorry I can't help you Annie.  I try not to follow the #s too tightly.  I focus more on getting my protein & water in.  That said, I do try to keep my carb intake to a minimum, for the very reason you stated.  I love carbs, but they make me hungry.  I'll only eat the empty carbs (and in very small amounts) if they are being eaten in conjunction with a protein.  For example, I'll broil some ham and cheese on top of 3 melba crackers.  Now the vegetable carbs are a different animal.  Green beans, peas, broccoli all have carbs, but have tons of other benefical vitamins too, so they're OK. My Nut said that each meal should start with protein, then veggies, and then a small amount of carbs if you still have room.

The Post Op diet (after you are done with the liquids and can eat solid foods 4-6 months out) that my Doctor wants his patients to follow is.... 21 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbs per MEAL and 3 meals a day in addition to drinking 64 oz. of water each day. I have not had the surgery yet I am waiting for my date but he said it would be a good idea to start that diet now and I have. I guess balancing my protein and crabs is working I am loosing a little weight but feeling  much better and I have more energy. When the nutritionist explained the diet it really made sense and was easy to understand I can make a copy and mail it to you if you want. :)Meagan

Annie, I had the same questions so I went back to my NUT and had a med-gym done.  It was very infornative.  And with my daily journal she was able to tell me about how many protein grams, how much fat and how many carbs I needed for me to contimue to lose weight.  I think from my information she gave me that it would be different for everyone.  Continued success to you.   Margaret

Carbs do not make you hungry. GOOD carbs are a part of a well balanced diet - carbs from fruits, veggies, LF/FF dairy and WHOLE grain breads. Bad carbs - anything bleached, refined processed are not part of a well balanced diet - they will not keep you full as long as good carbs and will trigger you to be hungrier much sooner.  When reading labels you want to look for whole grain - you do not want items that have been 'enriched'... many 'healthy whole wheat' products are just junk in disguise. By only purchasing whole grain products you eliminate about 90% of the boxed/bagged things in the store - you have to dig to find the products that are healthy. Also the fiber content of whole grains is higher than if they are enriched - that helps to fill you up and keep you full... as well as the other benefits of fiber! It takes work but once you find them you always know which ones to grab for. An example would be those 100 calorie snack packs - they are pretty much all enriched wheat based and contain high fructose corn syrup - while the 100 calorie part is good, you are eating 100 calories of 'junk' food basically. I eat 100-110g carbs a day. They come from fruits, veggies, dairy and 2-3 servings from bread/starch. When I was earlier out I was around 60-80g carbs, my bread/starch was limited to 1-2 servings and slowly went up as I moved to maintenance eating.
