I was released yesterday morning and have been trying to get comfortable ever since!  All is going well and it was a pleasure to take a shower yesterday.  It was great meeting Lisa when she dropped by on Wednesday!  You guys were right about it being difficult to get all your protein in.  Geez!  Also, my doc wants me to walk 30-45 minutes a day.  It was tough yesterday, but got some walking in.  Thanks for all of your good wishes and support!!!

Hi, welcome to the Losers Bench!  30-45 mins a day is A LOT for someone who has just had surgery.  I started out with 10 mins on my treadmill at a fairly low speed.  Do a couple of short 10 min walks and build up from there....  Don't over do it this first week.   I had a lot of pain in hte uppper left quadrant area where the stapler went in.  The only thing that helped me was putting heat on that area.  I had one of those bags that you can put in the microwave.  I used it so much.  Pillows also help to support your tummy.   This week will fly by and you'll feel better each day!  Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions!

Welcome home Sue!    After my shower I felt human again.   When i came home i did my CIB shakes again but not as many as pre-surgery and then started to add a protein bullet which is 42 g of protein (you can get them online).   Since i was paranoid of blood clots after my surgery, I made an effort to get up every hour for 10 min and just walked around the house or outside in the yard if the weather was pleasant.   That way I got my little exercise and avoided clots. It will take a day or two but you will find out what works best for you! Take care, Pam

Welcome to the Loser's Bench.    Another poster advised about moving every hour or so--good advice.  I stayed with my daughter and I took the opportunity to pick up my grandson's toys.  It hurt like **%#  but I kept at it slowly.  I was over the soreness in just a few days.   I walked up and down in the hallway and tried going up and down the steps slowly.  Anything to work the soreness out.

Hi Susan -

I'm glad to hear that you are home. I think that's the best part of the surgery ... getting home to your own bed and shower!

Re walking ... I found that walking about 5 mins an hour to start with helped me a lot. Then I was able to increase the duration. That way I was able to get in my 30 min to an hour of walking without killing myself. My Dr said that the important thing was to get up and move every hour or so that I was awake to prevent a pulmonary embolism from forming.

Re protien ... I'm sure your dr gave you orders on that. Generally you need to make sure that you are staying hydrated ... and that's nearly a full time job. With that if you can get a couple of ounces of protien in an hour, you'll be surprised at how much you'll consume in a day. It will come easier and easier.

Take care and be sure to keep us posted on your progress.

Barb
