Dr. Chapman in Greenville

Does anyone in Greenville know Dr. Chapman as a LapBand surgeon?  My husband is starting the required 6 month program next month, to get Medicare to pay for his LapBand surgury.  He has decided on Dr. Chapman.  (He is the closest who does it in a Center of Excellance as required by Medicare.)  We haven't even met him yet, he was recommended by our PCP.  We have  a few months to really DECIDE for sure on a doc, and was hoping to get some input from REAL people, with REAL experience with him.  His office can tell me how many he has done, etc.  And competence is ESSENTIAL, but aftercare and personality have to play some role in this.  THANKS.  BTW, my husband isn't interested in researching anything.  If our PCP recommends him, my DH is OK with that.  I have no ongoing relationship with my band doc since I had it done in MX and get my fills from a FillCentersUSA doc.  Although Dr. Ortiz's office has ALWAYS been available to me by phone and e-mail and I loved him when I was there with my friend 3 years ago and when he did my surgery last year.  I don't want my DH to get stuck with a real curmudgeon (although he can be one himself at times!).  Or an uncaring staff!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Chapman...... I did do the research, he does a leak test and a swallow test and his infection rate is less the .o5% now. He is an excellent surgeon.  Since I work in the ER next to his office it is almost never that you get one of his post op patients with complications in our ER... :) He has a wonderful bedside manner. And is very busy. He is also the chief of surgeons for the bariatric surgery dept.... I would recommend him of all the choices in greenville.. Good luck on your journey...

ECU (Dr. Chapmans' office) and Southern Surgical in Greenville are both "Centers of Excellence" and have great surgeons. I think you will be happy with either choice.  Good luck to you and your husband and he undergoes this life-changing event!

Just to split hairs, PCMH is the "Center of Excellence".  Drs. Chapman and Pender's practice is out of the Brody School of Medicine at ECU.  Drs. McDonald, Naziri, and Mann practice at Southern Surgical.  They are all very very good at what they do.  The certification is for the hospital, not the surgeon himself.

Dr. Chapman at ECU and Dr. MacDonald at Southern Surgical are by far the most experienced doctors in G-ville, they have both done thousands of them.  Your husband will be in excellent hands with either of them.  As far as I know, they both do Lap-Band as well as RNY.  Having said that, I would highly recommend Dr. Chapman.  He is fantastic at this as well as extremely experienced.  He has a great bedside manner and is very very competent.  His aftercare is good as well.  You can contact his office any time you need him(I have always had a call back within an hour or so.) and he will have you come back multiple times the first couple of years.  Yearly after 2 years out, I believe. Dr. Chapman is great and is accomplished with both lapband and RNY.  He has operated on my husband 4 times (cancer related) and of course he did my RNY.  His partner, Dr. Pender is also a great surgeon.  Good luck on making the decision.
