Hi! Newbie here....

Hello everybody!  I'm Lisa, I live near Charlotte, am 45 years old and a judge. I am married and have a 5 year old daughter.  I went to an informational seminar last week, and they called me to schedule an appointment with the surgeon.  I will be going for my appointment next Thursday. What can I expect from my first appointment?  Does anybody know Dr. Kuwada?  Has anybody had their WLS at CMC-Mercy?  Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really trying to learn all I can before I meet with Dr. Kuwada. Hey there, Lisa!  Welcome aboard the WLS Express!   I'm not sure how Dr. Kuwada's practice handles first appointments, but there's surely someone else here who has worked with him and his office and can give you all the detes. Most surgeons offer information packets at the initial appointment so you'll have everything you need to get you started in choosing a procedure, getting your medical evaluation appointments scheduled, learning what to expect, etc.  As others mentioned, every WLS medical office is different, so you might be given information about support groups and other resources.  Hopefully they'll give you adequate time for the myriad questions you probably have about everything! It's great that you're joining our little community.  I look forward to hearing more about how things go for you!

Welcome Lisa I live in Huntersville and recently had RNY with Dr. Melkonian and my surgery was at Presbyterian Main so don't have answers to your questions.    I have seen your docs name here so I am sure someone will be able to shed light for you. This is a great group of people and if you have any questions, just ask away and we will all help in any way we can. There is a meeting at Presby Main on Monday the 17th that is open to anyone.   I will be attending for the first time and it is open to anyone so you may want to consider coming.  It starts at 6:30 and i believe is in the cafeteria. Welcome, Lisa, and congratulations on taking the first steps towards really loving yourself!  This is such an exciting journey and it's great that you are seeking support from external sources.  Jennifer Wilhunt did use Dr Kuwada and I am sure she will be happy to share her experience with you.  From what I understand she was very happy with him. All the best to you in your journey and please keep us posted on your progress and never hesitate to ask questions!

In answer to your question about what to expect, the others that have responded before me are correct, every program and Dr is different so it's hard to say exactly what to expect from the Dr. you have chosen. However, I looked him and his 'patient reviews' up here on OH. It will give you 'access' to people who have used him in the past and they may be able to answer your specific questions.
