~I just saw Jami~

I have just returned from the Pitt Palace and got to spend some time with Jami and her sweet hubby Shawn. When I arrived at 1:30 she was STILL in PACU. They told me I had to come back at 3:00 pm and then I could see her. So me and my Boquet of Ballons and Easter Basket full of sugar free goodies floated down the hall to the waiting room I read my book I brought till 2:59 then went down the hall and saw Shawn and he took us back to her bed. Jami was really happy to see us and the poor thing was in pain, hot and hadnt had any Boost and she passed her swallow test hours ago. She also was very red and hot so the nurse said she was going to go get a fan.. she came back with a cardboard backing and handed it to me and I was happy to act like a human fan to cool our poor friend off and make her more comfortable!!!They ordered her pain meds and said they hope they came earlier then last time (it took a full hour to get her meds last round) They also said her room was ready and they didnt make us leave after 15 minutes like they were supposed to. I dont know how this is allowed but the person in the next bed got their family to bring them Kentucky Fried Chicken.... the smell was making my stomach turn and poor Jami asked if they could move the girl because she has not had food in weeks and it was making her hungry so they were nice enough to move the girl to the other side of PACU. After all the paperwork was done she was packed up and the staff came and pushed her to her room.. I wish I would of had my camara because she had all my ballons and some from Andria floating in the wind and it looked like a party wagon If you have not been to Pitt it is a HUGE hospital.. we cut through the other PACU and went down the hall behind all the operating rooms... as soon as I got a whiff of all the gases they use, it brought me right back to the day I had my surgery and I was happy to get out of that hallway which felt like a 100 miles long.

We got her in her room and I turned down the thermostat so it was nice and cold. Jami and I both like sleeping like polar bears and I could see she was finally cooling down. She finally got some Boost and some Loritab but was uncomfortable with some gas pains. Barbie girl was a real trooper though because she decided it was time to get out of bed and walk. We did a lap around the floor and stopped a few times to rest and press that wonderful Bariatric pillow up against the gas bubbles. I was soooo proud of her she was doing fantastic!!! We got back to the room and I called Alice who works at Pitt, she came up and the last time I saw her was when I had my surgery and she looks FANTASTIC!!! Alice met Jami and showed us her scrapbook she made about her RNY journey which was REALLY cool!!! we talked and talked and it was getting late and I knew Jami was ready for a nap. Alice left and then I left a few minutes later... Im so glad I got to see her today and act as her angel... Jami is a wonderful girl and I cannot wait to see the progress she makes. She was VERY Touched by everyone who signed her surgery page and is grateful to have such a great group of friends here at OH. Jami was suppose to go home on Saturday but her doctors partner Dr. Chapman had been in some sort of accident and Dr. Pender told her he was *off* this weekend and that no doctor would be around to discharge her on Saturday (I thought that was weird) so hopefully if all goes well she gets to go home tommorro!!! sorry for the rambling... wanted to make sure I got everything

What an awesome AngelGram.  Thanks, Darcie!  Hope Jami's up and at it very soon Your post should be forwarded to Jami's caregivers at Pitt and her surgeon's office.  Sounds like there are few issues they ought to know they could be doing better at.  Thank goodnes you were there to provide some supplemental AngelCare. You defnitely earned your wings!

Darcie, You are such a sweet angel.  I remember seeing you just after surgery (you were only a few weeks out and still being the sweetie you are!) You came in with a HUGE bucket (near Halloween) of sugar free goodies and a Congrats balloon. That "present" sat in my living room reminding me of you and all the wonderful people at OH the entire time I was out on leave...  It meant so much to me! I'm sure Jami really appreciated all of your Angel support... I'm sorry to hear she had such an ordeal and may be stuck in the hospital through the weekend! I can't imagine they can't have SOMEONE discharge her... Anyway, you are a great friend to Jami and all of us. Thanks for your detailed update... have a great weekend!!!
