Hello from a Newbie!

Hi everyone.  My name is Lorie and I'm on the path to WLS!  I'm currently 284 lbs with an approx. BMI of 48. My doctor is Dr. Kenneth MacDonald at Southern Surgical in Greenville.  The entire practice is fantastic and I can say the same for each specialist they have referred me to.  These folks really have their ducks in a row!  I took the initial class on January 3, 2008 and I think that Danielle was there as well (good to see you here!).   I can hardly wait to complete my pre-op appointments.  I have my psych eval on Monday at the Pain Management Clinic.  That's the last appt before I can schedule my history & physical appointment with my surgeon.  I've been cleared by all of the other doctors.  Let's hope this appt goes as well as the others! I've struggled with weight my entire life.  It wasn't really anything I worried about until the past 3-4 years.  I have two boys and I just can't keep up with them anymore.  Everything I have aches and given my family history, I know that I'm just a ticking timebomb for weight related illnesses.  So I decided it was time to take action and quit living live from the sidelines.  I've never been so motivated for anything in my life!  It feels good to be doing something for me for a change and I can't wait to be on the loser's bench!  I'm just hoping that the insurance and final visit go well.   Thanks for listening and for being such an inspiration to the newbies out there.

LorrieAnne,   I was at that class. It is so hard to believe that it has gone this fast! I go back for my follow up appt with the psych next Wednesday. Do you know who you are seeing? I hope all goes well. Welcome to OH, this is one place that you will be glad that you joined! Everyone up here is so wonderful, and willing to help you in any way that they can.  Welcome!!! Danielle

Danielle,  I think I'm seeing the same woman you saw...Williams or something like that.  I'm nervous about it.  I'd hate to go through all of these workups just to get stalled at the psych visit.  I know it's important and that the visit is in our best interest,  I'm just ready to finish moving forward.    I'll keep my fingers crossed for your next visit.  I'm sure that it will all work out!

Good luck and take care!

Lorie

Hi Lorie -

Welcome to the NC Forum and to OH as a whole. I look forward to getting to know you over the course of your journey; thanks so much for giving us a quick snapshot!

I agree with you when you say that this is one of the motivating things you will ever do for yourself. I think that you will find that while your life has probably been wonderfully fullfilling to date, this journey you are embarking on will open up new avenues you haven't even thought of before. It's truly amazing and absolutely life-changing in so many ways. If I have any regrets, it's that I didn't do this many years ago. That said, I'm glad I did it. I'm glad I've gotten most of my excess weight off and I'm glad that I'm here. This is a truly wonderful place to get and give support; and as they say you will reap what you sow. You will find very quickly that there will be newcomer's following in your footsteps that you will be able to support with answers to questions and reassurance that things will be okay. It's the exchange of ideas, questions and answers, and pure unadulterated support that make this particular board so fabulous. I like many of the other boards here on OH, but I have to say that I honestly think the NC board is one of the most loving, kind and supportive places you will ever find.

Oh! I almost forgot to tell you that I am in the process of launching a Virtual Support Group, so let me know if you are interested. I also host a face-to-face support group on the 3rd Sat of every month in Raleigh. Sometimes folks from your area make the trek up for the group. If you are interested in joining, please check out my meetup site for information. The address is http://wls.meetup.com/101.

Again, welcome.

Barb

Welcome to the NC Corner of OH! We are glad ot have you here!!! I had Dr. MacDonald at SS too and they are fantastic! I had surgery almost 5 months ago and everything has been smooth sailing (for the most part).  Even though time feels as though it is dragging, it will come faster than you think!!!  Good luck with everything and I look forward to seeing you through this process!!!
