Good Morning Everyone! I have my psych evaluation at Southern Surgical today @ 1 pm.  Any advice on what to expect?  I'm more nervous than I thought I'd be. Amanda

Amanda,   As you can probably tell from my post, my experience was not fun. It is not bad. They will just ask you questions, and talk to you to make sure that you are ready for the life changes that you are about to make. They will ask you if your family is supportive, why you want this surgery, and stuff like that. There is nothing to worry about. I was until I got to talking to her. Are you going to the "Pain Management" bldg? That is where I had to go, and I saw Jennifer Williams. You will do fine. Good Luck. I hoped this helped some!! Danielle

I was sooooooooooo nervous when I did mine that I was throwing up ALL morning!! lol  No biggie, I do that when I'm nervous!! Even now lol I felt thru all the questions that I was "in" but it put me over the top when I told her, "YES, I want to do it for myself, cause noone else can, BUT, I have a 3 (now 4yr old) that I want to LIVE for and started to cry!"  She started to cry too lol and it was as they say, history from there. GOOD LUCK!!! Connie

Thanks for the info, gals!  I really appreciate it.  Hopefully, a deep breath and remembering your words will relax me right before I go in. Danielle, I'm sorry you didn't get cleared this time.  I know that must have been so disappointing.  My appointment is actually in Rocky Mount at the Surgery Center and I can't remember the doctor's name right now.  I'll try to remember to post tonight and let everyone know how it went. Thanks, again, for the advice.   Amanda

Amanda -

First and foremost, know that the psych eval is there for your support and protection. You will do just fine. There isn't anything magical about it. They just want to know that you have realistic expectations about what to expect. You can read about mine if you look in the Mar 2007 on my profile. If anyone should have been worried about what might happen, believe me with my history of serious clinical depression, I'm one ... that said, it went just fine.

I know that it's going to go well for Danielle who had her initial visit earlier and will have a follow up on the 12th ... It's all to ensure that we have the absolute best outcome possible.

Hang in there kiddo and remember that they are here to support you, not hinder you.

Warmest regards,

Barb

I guess sometimes when I have a goal in mind or something I'm trying to accomplish, I see challenges, or in this case pre-op tests, as a hinderances instead of opportunities to make me stronger.  Thank you for the encouragement and helping me regain the right prospective. Amanda
