Has anyone tried the Weigh Down Workshop?  It is a faith-based workshop. There is one offered at a local church for $45(for the book) for teh 12 week program.  It sounds like it would really go along with the tools we need to make WLS successful.  From what I have read, it is NOT a diet but you learn about the new volume of foof your body requires to survive.  It seems to really stress eating in moderation. I had really looked forward to not having to do "diet plans" anymore, but this really seems like it could help with my ever-growing hunger and cravings.......... I would love to hear if anyone has tried this - especially post op.

I have never done that particular one but I did First Place right after I had my 9 yo, which was before wls. It really helped me. I lost like 50 lbs on it back then. My mother in law also did and still does it to this day. She keeps a food journal and I think it promotes accountability. It also helps you focus on God and not eating. the bible studies for First Place were very inspiring and being with a group every  week was just good for the soul. Good luck and I hope you find it is what you need.  Take care Melissa

I haven't heard of this specific program, but I think that any program that helps us to retool our thinking about our relationship to and with food is likely to be a good thing. I don't think that we will have to diet anymore, but we do have to learn to re-adjust our mindset about food. I think that emotional eating and mindless eating are probably the two biggest factors that appear to be issues for us.

I have come to think of this journey as being like a 3-legged stool. If we miss one, we'll be back on our proverbrial butts.

** Surgery to provide a physical tool that can help us take off the excess weight and then maintain the goal/target weight.

** Support to help us as make this lifelong journey. As they say, it takes a village ...

** Changing our behaviors and ultimately our relationship with food. If we continue the behaviors that got us here in the first place, we are likely to end up near or at where we started. I don't think that this means dieting forever, but it does mean being mindful and accountable.

I'd love to hear more about the program that you are looking at ... pros and cons.

Keep us posted.

Hey Barbara, I am so sorry in the delay in getting back to you.  I was out of town yesterday until right before time to go to the meeting. It is at First Baptist in Kannapolis.  It is actually called Thin Within.  This Sunday was the informational meeting.  Next week starts the 12 week program from 5:30-6:30. I have decided to do it, mostly for the spiritual and inner self gain that it seems to provide.  I do think that some/most of the tips will be helpful after WLS such as, listening to your body when it is hungry and full (as God intended).  I think the major premise of the program is to surrender to God and let him lead the way - which I usually find very difficult.  There were some things that I found skeptical, but maybe when I get the book I can understand it more. They still have room if you are interested, just call the church office.  There were probably 8 people in the group ranging from early 30's to 70's.  Most look like they had less than 50 pounds to loose.  It appears to be a very informal group. PM me if you have more questions!
