Overdid it today

Think i overdid it today.  Started soft foods yesterday and everything went fine.   Today i had egg whites and 2 ounces of baby peaches for breakfast and 4 ounces of tomato soup with crackers for lunch.   I was feeling so good, i decided to work in the backyard and used the loppers to trim back a bush right after i ate lunch.   I have been in excrutiating pain all afternoon and don't know what to do with myself.   It is in the upper stomach and almost feels like gas.   I am trying to get a shake in now as it doesn't help that i had under 200 calories and not enuf protein.   I laid in bed for about 2 hours and still no relief.   Anyone experience anything like this? Thanks, Pam

To all you newbies who just had surgery or are scheduled in the near future, just because you feel great, do not push yourself physically.   Dumb ass me did so today and i had more pain than i had with my surgery.   The cramps were unbearable and after 2 hours of that, i started to throw up.   A call to the surgeon got me a stern but nice lecture that because the outside looks all nice and you feel good..there is still a lot of healing to do on the inside.  The fact that I did some heavy duty yard work after eating almost kicked my butt.   Fortunately, after about 5 hours this has passed and i saved myself a trip to the e.r.    As a consequence, I now have to start on clear liquid and move slowly to soft foods! Take care, Pam

((((Pam)))),

I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I think that sometimes having lap surgery, we forget that we still had major surgery. I'm sure that some rest and clear liquids will help get you back in shape. I'm delighted to hear that you called your Dr's office and they were able to help you, even it meant knowing what was wrong and what to do to resolve it.

Take care,

Barb

Thanks Barb....i really appreciate it.   My problem is I am addicted to gardening and the day was so gorgeous but boy oh boy.....i won't be gardening for a month.   I was able to keep down 4 ounces of jello and 8 ounces of water without the return of the cramps.  I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN and wanted to give everybody my lesson. Take care, pam

Sorry to hear you are having a rough time - as DrM said just take it easy. You are suppose to let your abs rest for at least 6 weeks after surgery!! As a side note - is DrM allowing crackers at two weeks out now? Previously crackers wernt allowed until you are further out (if I am remembering correctly). If you ate the crackers with the soup they could have turned mushy into your pouch and had trouble  moving thru... that could be a reason you were feeling cruddy?

Hey Jennifer... Went to post op on Friday and he told me to start soft foods and said tomato soup with crackers would be fine.   He basically told me to start soft and that some people are back to normal foods in a month while others take 2 to 3 months.   He hasn't been good about giving directions with physical exertion.     I had no idea i had to wait 6 weeks as you said but that sure makes sense.  When i called on Saturday, I talked to Dr. Turk who was on call. thanks for the info. I learned that one after my csection years ago, I went home feelin f a b u l o u s, and in the spirit of new babyness and nesting, somehow I got a hair up my ass about how dirty the siding was on the front of the house. Yes, i took a mop and a bucket, and went out there, 6 days out from a csection, staples intact, and started washing the siding down. HELLO? IDIOT? lol Needless to say later that evening I spiked a 104 degree temp and ended up back in the hospital with an infection that kept me away from my new baby boy for 5 days. Talk about pissed at myself.

At least i know i am in good company...lmao.   Thank God it wasn't bad enough to put me in the hospital.  My mom made me take my temp a hundred times a day for the past few days.   I am 52, married and have a child but my 75 yr old mom came to take care of me.   She has now taken to watching me like ol hawkeye and if i am out of her site for 5 minutes...she is looking to see what i am up too!   My tummy is still a little sore and i am doing mostly shakes but have added a little solid. Thanks, Pam
