I had surgery (Lap RNY) Monday. Started full liquids Thursday per doc. Last nite and some today I have been having pain in my lower abdomen. Like under my belly button. Anyone else? Have any ideas?

Is it like a stinging-type pain? If so, there have been some issues regarding nerves waking up or something like that. I had severe pain in my lower stomach area (now we know our stomach is higher, but this was around my belly button area and lower)... it came about a week after surgery and lasted about a week... If that is what it is, keep warm pads on it and rest-- that is the only thing that helped me! Maybe someone else has other ideas of what it may be? Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the info. Yeah it kinda stings. Last night it had me bent over double. It seems to happen when I have sat for awhile or like last nite was in the car and it hit when i got out. I hope that it goes away soon. And it isnt constant it comes and goes. I called the doc to make sure and the nurse said maybe the proteins were too heavy for me. Ihad 60 today. Anyone heard of such? Thanks again!

I know every doctor and thier guidelines are different but if you just had surgery on monday and doing full liquids on thursday I would say take it super easy. I was doing about 3oz when I came home from the hospital mainly cream soups but I had to take it very easy. If you are still having pain do not hesitate to call your doctor. I do know that one of the insision sites is above the belly button.                                                         Annie

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

I would call the doc to be on the safe side!  I tend to error on the side of caution.  I know the hospital i went to has a Bariatric wing and if yours does also, you may be able to call one of the nurses there with a question. Take care, pam

While we are always here to listen, be sure to call your Dr ... especially if you are ever doubled over in pain. That's not normal and should be investigated.

Please let us know what the Dr says and how you are doing.

Wishing you a much more comfortable evening,

Barb

Well I called the doctor and they told me they didnt think from what I described that it was pouch related, because I don't have anymore symptons(ie fever, chills, etc.) The nurse felt that it may be bloating from the surgery or my cruel twist of fate(monthly not so friendly friend came on check out day from hospital) The nurse feels that it is "postional". I assume that means she thinks that its coming from sitting up too long or the way I was sitting in the car yesterday. I had a spell this afternoon and noticed that when I lifted my pants off of my stomach the pain subsided. So maybe she is on target with the bloating but I promise you it was nothing I had felt before. I think tomorrow I will wear the baggest pants I can find!!!Wonder if anyone would look at me funny if I went to my son's basketball game in bright yellow, with stars and moons pajama pants?? hmmm? I couldnt I dont have the nerve but it is nice to tease him with!!! LOL. Thanks for all your help . Ya'll really are great! Pats on the back for everyone!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear that things are going better. I know that I made sure that I even wore a dress home from the hospital ... I'm sure it will all settle soon. I'm so glad you called though, while we are always here to listen and give you our 2 cents worth, it's always best to check with the experts.

Let me know how the PJs go over at the basket ball game.

I am so happy you called and everything appears to be fine.   I hadn't seen my monthly friend for almost 5 months since i am 52 and menopausal but the rat showed up the day after i was released from the hospital.   Wonder if the blood thinners have anything to do with that!    Take care, Pam

Hi Pam -

It's very common for women who are either peri-menapausal or who have had a cessasion of menses to start the cycle right after surgery. It looks like I'm truly menapausal, since the visitor hasn't come knocking again ... LOL.
