Grand Canyon future trip

Mother has made us an offer she has several frequent flyer miles and would like Lee and I to use them. So being married to the cowboy my first thought was lets go to the Grand Canyon!!!!! Ive never been out west except to Oklahoma and Lee has always talked about going to the rockies. Not sure if we will make the trip this spring or this fall but either way I am going to be ready physically. Before we went to Disney years ago I worked really hard on the treadmill to prepare myself for all the walking. As I look at info on the GC I thought it would be great to do a mule ride through the canyon. One problem there is a weight limit of 200lbs OMG 200lbs is my first goal. I know I can train for this trip just not sure if I can make the weight limit by then. I will continue reseaching and reading and any insight anyone has would be helpful. This is like a dream come true for me and I am ready to saddle up with my partner. BTW even Lee is 7lbs over the weight limit he has lost 7lbs since Christmas.                                         Annie

That's so exciting Annie!

You CAN absolutely make that goal of saddling up with your partner hon. Why don't you plan a trip as your 1 year surgiversary present? :)

Thanks for the idea Holley my anniversary date is August 1st not sure how hot it will be there then. I still think about heat LOL probally always will I tend to wilt in hot weather LOL even tho out west there is low humidity.                                      Annie Just read about jeep rides, trains and wagon trips through the canyon it all looks great. I am such a earth mother the thought of being around all those rocks is a thrill for me.

I was there in may several years ago. 2002 and 2003. In 2002 it was blazing hot about 100. 100 is still 100. The next year it was much more managable. I was well over the weight limit for mule and helicopter ride, but it was still a beautiful site to behold from the edge. What a great goal for you. Belinda

You are right, the heat might be unbearable in the desert in August! Well, modify that suggestion just a bit, and make it your goal to save all the money you will need for the entire trip by your surgery anni, then pay for the trip in full for your present... the actual trip can be in the fall. :)

I would love to see the GC myself one day. There are so many awesome places in our country I'd like to see in fact. I need a man who loves to travel!! hehehe

Oh, sounds like such fun!  We lived in New Mexico when my kids were little and the heat there is dry heat so it is a little more bearable.  I would check and see when the desert is in bloom. I remember it was really the prettiest season and I don't remember what time of year it was? spring maybe?...~Mary~

I went to the GC this past july - it was amazing. I was just there for the day so we didnt do any hiking/mule trips - but I definately would next time. There is a tribe of indians that lives at the bottom of the canyon you can go visit - look into that because supposidly its amazing where they live - looks like the bahamas or something because of all the vegitation and waterfalls.
