Any support groups near Wilson?

Ok.. new to *this* forum.. I spend most of my time at the Post-Op Preggie board.  But figured, what the heck. Hubby and I moved to NC almost 3 years ago from Western KY, where I had my surgery in 04.  I was part of an active support group there, but haven't really looked for one here because I got pregnant soon after moving here, and really have been too busy afterwards. Now that I'm not pregnant with #2 (which is # last, btw), I'm going to get back on the wagon.  I'm going to do the 5day pouch test starting on Monday, but I figure a good support group would help as well. So anything close?  Greenville is easy for me (all of my doctor appointments are there so I know my way around).. Raleigh isn't too bad as we go there pretty often already.  Rocky Mount would be super.. but unlikely. Thanks..

Hi Andrea -

Welcome to the board. I'm just delighted that you've joined us. I love your Avi ... It's just adorable. Congratulations on the additions to your family ... What blessings!

I'm delighted to say that we have a relatively active and very supportive board here. There are a number of folks in the Greenville area and I know that one of the gals, Melinda aka ECUMindy, have been talking about putting together a support group for that area. I have one that meets in Raleigh on the 3rd Sat of each month; you can get more information for that at http://wls.meetup.com/101. I'm also in the process of getting my training to be an OH support group leader and I'm planning to do virtual groups here on the NC board; if you are interested, please let me know.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you.

Thanks for the welcome..  I *love* my kids.. but with each pregnancy I had complications and gained way too much weight.  I was working off the last bit with #1 when I got pregnant with #2.  And while he's only 2 weeks old, I'm *done* being fat again.  Hubby tells me I should be easier on myself, but this is something I need to do mentally and physically for myself. 3rd Sat.. I don't currently have plans during that Saturday.  We have something we do on the 2nd Sat each month.. so that works out well.  May have to come visit this month. Glad to see an active board.  My old state wasn't too active, and the Post-Op Preggie board is *super* supportive.. It will be different not to just go there! Thanks again for the welcome.. it's quite nice.

Hey Andrea! Welcome to the NC Board! I'm a frequent *lurker* of the post op preggie board since DH and I want to start a family in the near future (one of the main reasons I had WLS). I noticed you were from Wilson and thought about PMing you to join us here, so I'm glad you made it on your own!

Barb is correct in that a few girls and I have discussed having a group meeting here in Greenville to allow some of our coastal girls to join us. Raleigh is a bit too far for some, but Greenville seems to be a nice half way point. Keep checking the board for updates to come on that group meeting. In the interim, we have a great support group at Southern Surgical here in Greenville. Most of the people that attend had their surgeries performed by doctors on staff, but they are such a loving and welcoming group that they will welcome you with open arms! Becky, Andrea and a couple others are some that frequent these meetings with me. We'd love to have you join us!  The meetings are at the SS Office, just off Arlington Blvd, on the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm.  I should find out in a day or so who the speaker will be next week and I'll be sure to post the information here. Welcome again to the NC board and I look forward to talking with you more in the future! :)  Hope to see you next week!

Thanks.. you shouldn't lurk over at the preggie board.. we have a number of people that are TTC that are regulars.. even a support group within the board just for TTC'ers. I probably won't be able to make it on Wednesday..  I'll be in Greenville in the afternoon.. but I have a doctor's appointment that isn't very plesant (I get occipital nerve blocks every 3 months.. shots in the head.. *not fun*) and will probably be home with ice. I'll put it on my calendar, though, for future reference :-) Thanks for the invite!

Southern Surgical also has a support group that meets in Rocky Mount due to the fact that the surgeons also perform operations at Nash General.  I think they meet on the 1st Tuesday of each month in the evening, but I'm not sure where.  I'm just starting my WLS journey and haven't received all the details on the support group yet.  I bet you could give them a call and they'd tell you when and where.   Welcome to the forum! Amanda
