one of my MANY fears while considering wls is the loss of my diet mt. dew.  was this hard for any of you out there?.........letting go of carbonated beverages?  has anyone had any success with being able to tolerate them after surgery?

Giving up Cokes 8 months ago was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.  I have wanted one now and again but I would not ever even try a sip.  I love my crystal light and my Tropicana Sugar Free Lemonade.

I was probably one of the biggest soda addicts ever!!! I LOVED my Mt. Dew, not Diet, not coke, just Mt. Dew!! LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!! I sadly  quit drinking Mt. Dew in November of 2007 after my first consult with the surgeon, I figured that was where I could start, I guess to show how bad I wanted this!! It was hard..BOY was it hard, but I SURPRISINGLY quickly transitioned to Diet Mt. Dew and that actually was alot easier than I thought, I guess I made a mental note that this was not so bad and I really didn't have a choice if i wanted this surgery bad enough. And after a while, once in a great while i would get a craving for a regular Mt. Dew and I would get one and it really didn't taste that good!! I ended up feeling guilty..lol I couldn't believe it! So Diet Mt. Dew ended up being my favorite drink!! That was actually harder to quit drinking than regular! I have been a few weeks with absolutely NO SODA whatsoever and I am okay!! I miss the bubbly feeling going down my throat...LOL  But I want to be healthy and I know it won't happen if I cannot get over my addiction of soda. So I kind of just quit thining about it and started drinking the heck out of some Crystal Light and so far so good!! It is really hard, but they say it takes 21 days to break an addiction, so after 21 days, your Diet Mt. Dew will be a thing of the past and you will be able to introduce new drinks of choice into your life!! The best of luck to you, it is not easy, but none of this is, and as an ex. Diet Mt. Dew addict, i suggest starting the process of weaning yourself off from it and it won't be as hard as you think!! Just give it some time!! But start now!!

Hope this gives you a little encouragement!!

I tried 2 times and got sick both times so I don't do sodas at all. But I replaced it with coffee. I drink way,way to much coffee. Seems like my taste buds changed after gbs. Stuff I didn't like before I eat now.

I had my lap RNY March 2006- after about 4 or 5 months after surgery I could not take it anymore-- I had to have my Diet Coke ,... what my nutritionst told me  to allow the soda to go flat a bit, and sip it slow to see if it agrees with you-- WELL it did and I will admit , I drink my Diet Caff Free Diet , stright up now and it has been no problem. My doctor told me it does not increase the size of your pouch and as long as you drink water it will not hurt you.... SO I say , just lay off the soda for awhile down the road it should not hurt you, of course you may not even want it after a while .  So yes I AM A DIET COKE Drinker , I don't drink beer or any other sprits, I don't do drugs, I eat a very healthy balanced diet , I exercise --- my DC is my drug . Must not be too bad, I have lost my weight and kept it off.  Have a great Day pre and post opers..

I do miss theu bubbly diet sodas. I did a demo the other week for diet Dr. Pepper so I decided to try a very small amount. It was very tasty but the bubbles made my pouch unhappy. It is ok if I dont have soda any more I stick to my decaf iced tea and I am happy.                                          Annie

I am very thankful that I was never much of a soda drinker.  HATS OFF to those of you who "gave up the drink!".  My husband "quit" drinking his Sweet Tea since my surgery. I swear he doesnt know what to do with himself. I'm sure he's been drinking it since birth! LOL  I'm VERY proud of his determination!

Awwwww ... that's the cutest thing ever!!  Be sure to tell your husband he's a dollbaby for making the supreme sweet tea spousal sacrifice in the name of love.  Awwwwwww ...

I, too, was a Diet Mt. Dew fanatic and have not missed it now. It took me a while to come off of them before surgery, and I had the headache from you no where for a bit. I have transitioned to Tropican Sugarfree lemonade...it's my new addiction. Absolutely love it. Just hang in there and you can do it.  Lisa
