Lately I've been feeling kinda naked ...

without my wedding rings. I used to wear a very tight 9.5. I've lost over 100 lbs and can't keep the rings on. I was cleaning off my dresser and looked longingly at my rings. Put them on and they just spun around. Then I thought ... hmmmm.... when I was a kid his class ring was way too big for me and I used some dental floss, bet that would work. So, off to the bathroom I went and I spent a good hour wrapping and trying on the rings until they would stay on. I must have used most of the spool of floss, but at least I had my rings on last night and today. Well, over the course of the day the floss is starting to come undone :-(, so I went on eBay and ordered some ring guards to see if they will work. I can't afford to get them sized yet and I'm not sure if the current size is it or not, but I had not wearing my rings. Anybody else have a suggestion?

I think down sizing rings may be a little cheaper than up sizing, because they don't have to add more gold/silver/plat.  Check around...it might not be as expensive as you think!!  I'd be lost without my rings too! Andrea

Hi Andrea -

I know that I need to get the rings size, but I'm not sure if this is my 'stable' weight yet. I think that there is even a part of me that is concerned that I'll need a bigger size at some point. It hasn't quite sunk in that my current size may not be a transient thing. At any rate, I know that sizing the rings really weakens the shank and all of my rings were sized at least once in the first place, so I want to wait until my weight is stable for about a year before sizing. That said, I really do miss wearing them and may see about getting some sort of guard in the meantime.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I had one right that my DH gave me for our 30th anniversary that I just didn't want to take a chance on losing so I had a ring sizer put on it.  It was more $ than I thought; about $14, so I haven't had others done yet.  You can find the ring sizers on the net and put them on yourself.   Just do a search for them.  I also put some tape on a couple of others and that has worked OK.  I had a little wow moment yesterday.  I had a birthstone ring that my brother gave me when I was in high school in the early 70s and had not been able to wear it for many years.  Well, yesterday I decided to try it again and it FIT great!   Good luck on getting your jewels back on!   Alice

Alice -

Congratulations! I was thinking about raiding my daughter's room to see if I can find my old class ring ... I'll let you know if I find and if it fits!

Enjoy wearing your birthstone ring ... for so many reasons!

I  have the same problem.  So I went to Wal-mart, and they had these clear plastic ring sizers for $2.00. So I bought them and they are still working out good for me.  It was cheap and did the job.

Hmmmm.... Hadn't thought of checking at WalMart. Sounds like a trip to their jewelry department is in order.

Thanks for the idea.
