Hi All -

Those who have known me for a while probably recall that I've been trying to get things straightened around so that my husband can have RNY at Duke. It has to be at Duke for insurance reasons. We were originally told that he couldn't have it done because of an exclusion in his primary policy, but it appears that the secondary carrier is going to come through. Sooooo, keep your fingers, toes and knees crossed while you say a prayer. We've completed the application and submitted that along with the non-refundable deposit. I'm hoping and praying that all will be well. I know that this surgery has changed my health and my life for the better. I wish this for my best friend too.

My journey so far is going great! No sickness, just tiredness from so few calories. I've lost 12 pounds since surgery and I started on pureed because I couldn't stand my hunger headache any longer. My son is ok. We got in with his specialist on a cancellation (thank the Lord!) and she switched his medication to a mood stabilizer. School agreed to let him return so we can see how this medicine works, if at all. It will be trial and error and hopefully we'll see improvement. It's just hard to see how his behavior is because we don't have the same problems at home as we do at school. Most of his problems are social, transitional, and how stimulated he is. At home he is the only child so he doesn't have to compete, we can more easily transition him than they can at school, and we stay low-key to prevent over stimulation. Continued prayers are welcome. :) Thanks for asking!!!!!!!!!! :)

Becky -

COntinued prayers are being sent. Your son is very lucky to have you for a parent since you are such an advocate for him. I know that it's really hard to see your child struggling. While my children have very different issues, it was still very hard to see them struggle. The best we can do for them is what you are doing; be informed, look for solutions and advocate. He has that in you and your husband and will thrive because of it.

Re: your WLS journey. I'm glad to hear that it is going well. I think my only regret regarding this journey is that I didn't do it sooner. I think if I had, it would have positively impacted my children in many ways.

Wishing you continued success in all that you face.

Warmly,

Barb

And Best Wishes that your husband's 2nd carrier can pull it off and cover his surgery needs.  I think both of you will make an awesome weight losing team, together.  I know I am much stronger with Keith's support.  (He's trying to lose some weight, too.) Ya'll can keep each other accountable!! Tell the hubby i hope he "get's well soon" from his hand surgery. Kelly :)

Down 65.6 lbs  WITHOUT surgery!!

This is great news, Barb!  Hope things pull together easily so your best friend can have many of the same life-changing experiences you've had.   All my limbs, digits, and joints are crossed while you're going through the process!
