Does anyone go to Curves for exercising?  I am thinking of signing up with them and wanted some feedback.  What does everyone else do for exercise?

Thanks,

Barbara

I love Curves, it has really helped me. Personally I think it is the perfect workout for women starting a program, you can go at your own pace, as you lose weight you can also step up your workout.

Good Luck

I went to Curves about 5 years ago and while i am one of those that hate exercise, I loved Curves.  It is a 30 minute workout and i went on my way home from work before i had a chance to sit on my butt.   If i remember right, it is 1 min to a min in a half of aerobics and then the same of a machine and you go around in a circle.  I had to quit because of a torn meniscus and bad knee joints.   I am hoping after i lose this weight,  my joints will allow me to get back to Curves. Hope this helps! Pam

I think it is a great place to start ... especially if you are somewhat gym-phobic. When I started, I couldn't even do 2 circuits. With time, I got to where I could and then some. Now, I've graduated from Curves, to a "normal" gym. I would be sure to find activities you love to do and incorporate them into your life. It's hard for us when we haven't been active to even know what those might be, but with time, trial and error you will find your nitch ... I'm seriously considering belly-dancing ... as long as I can keep my belly covered up ;-).

Wishing you every success,

Barb

Hi Barbara, I started at Curves right before my surgery. It was a great place for me to start but as the weight came off I found I needed more than what I was getting at Curves. At present I walk my dogs most every day and ride a statinary bike at home for 30 minutes and do deep water arobics once a week.                                       Annie

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

I personally didnt care for curves - I found it was more of a social club than a workout place - bunch of ladies chatting to each other. I like to be able to listen to my own music and 'zone out' when I work out and there you couldnt really do that because you had to listen to the cues. I also found the workout too easy - even at 277lbs I never really felt like I had done much. *shrug* just my opinion. I found a lot of workouts you could do that are very similar to what curves teaches and you only need to buy a few simple things - cheaper than paying their monthly fee.  I also enjoy more variety and switch up my workouts every few weeks...I also like to do different forms of cardio and would prefer spending my money on a class instead. However, if you havent worked out in a long time, are overwhelmed by the gym and need something pretty low impact its a good place to start.

I did Curves about 2 years ago and combined with counting calories, I lost 60 lbs.  I really enjoyed and the women that went there.  It was definitely more social than a regular gym, but I enjoyed getting to know everyone and losing weight.  On the other hand, when I moved to a different town and joined the Curves there, I hated it.  I had to force myself to go and I had paid a year in advance.  The atmosphere was so different.  It wasn't as fun.  I used to love to go and looked forward to it, but now I still have 5 months left of membership (paid in full) and I've opted to join the YMCA.  My advice would be to take advantage of any trial membership they have and test the waters.  You may love it or you may need to try another Curves location or another program all together.  Hope this helps.
