I know this may sound strange. I am afraid of starting regular foods. Like, I wont make good choices or everything will make me sick or get stuck. What were some of the foods you started out with? Im trying to make an appointment with my Nut but I feel like she is blowing me off. Took the money and ran, in my opinion.  I appreciate any advice. Thanks.  By the way Ive lost 41 lbs!

Hey Fab....   I am less than a week post op and I am dying to just chew something and can't satisfy with these protein shakes.  This too shall pass.   I am sure you will do awesome with regular foods as you have fought a big battle to get here.   I think our docs office is the same and if the Nut doesn't get back to you, I'd give Carrie or the nurse practioner a call and see if they can get her to respond.   After all, the only reason they got us is cuz of the doc's office.   Congrats on the 41 lbs.   I lost 14 prior to surgery and only 4 since... Take care, Pam

Congrats on the 41 pounds!  YAY!   I stretched my food cycles out a week or so each.  I had a hard time getting back to regular foods too and stuff still makes me sick, so I am cautious.  I think that if you want to stay soft for a few more days it won't hurt at all!

While it is something of a trail and error, you can goooo sloooowwww and it will help a lot. Also you need to chew, chew, chew.  I'd stay way from eggs and most meats to start with. Try shrimp, crab and fish re: protien sources in the beginning. Also, you will soon find that Wendy's chili and cottage cheese will be your friend early on.

RE: you Nut. I'd let your Dr's office know that you are not pleased. I'd also let the nut know you are not pleased and you need some additional help/support. You can also visit the diet and nutrition board here on OH. They will likely be able to help you.

41 lbs!!!! OMG!!! That's phenominal! You must be beyond delighted!

Enjoy the ride. You'll do well.

Which NUT are you using? I can give you an alternative or two if yours isnt being all that great. Did the NUT give you a list of what to start out with? I still have all my stuff from forever ago and can give you copies of whatever you may need. With regular foods you just want to start out slow - basically your focus is still protein protein protein so just slowly add more normal stuff in here and there. With meats you still want them to me very moist so pick beef with a little more fat (you can cut back later) and cook chicken so its moist. Slowly add in the salads, fruits, veggies.  Its all really a learning process and you will find some things work better than others. As a suggest always try new foods at home so you can see how they work first and eat sloooooowly, stop at the first sign of fullness etc. Oh and chew chew chew!

Im using Anju. She gave me a lot of stuff but its mainly the soft food diet that the literature is on.  Just wasnt sure when I could start shrimp, ground chicken, turkey, beef.. etc.   But I plan on coming to the support meeting in March so hopefully I get to meet you in person and get some more questiosn answered. Do Dr Lowe or Melkonian come to any of the support group meetings?  And again, thanks for all the advice!!

From what I understand Anju is working someplace else? Or switched jobs/positions or something? Lin who runs the support group told me DrM/DrL's office was hiring a new in office NUT - I would call and see if they have somebody else you can use. Personally I used Lake Norman Nutritional Assoc because thats who they referred me to - I always received calls back from them and stuff.  DrM/DrL do not come to the support groups but one or both of them are at the seminar that same night... so they are in the building.
