Had rny 1/18/08 and did very good at first. But since about 2 weeks out I have been sick sick sick.  I cant keep anything in me. I had endoscopy Monday and he said it was "just irritated" and there were some jagged edges, so he dilated me a little. I feel the worst yet today. I just cant eat, but am drinking ok. I have another follow up Friday. Is there anything I can do in the meantime?   (Am I the whiniest or what??? lol ) Im new to the forums and just wanted to say you guys look like a lot of fun and very supportive and actually care about your OH friends. Hope you have room for one more. Im really fun when I feel good. I promise! LOL    Thanks for listening to me vent.

I can't really offer any advice since I have not had my surgery, yet... but just wanted to say  "I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad!"  Hang in there I'm sure it will get better. I think it sounds like ,  you have a reason to  whine !..........~Mary~

Hi there!  I can't say I had the same kind of issues but in general I wold say that it takes a while for the pouch to settle down.  In my case I went through phases where stuff that tasted good didn't all of a sudden - and vice versa.  Sometimes it was the textures of food that all of a sudden I could not stand.  I also went through periods where some things made me sick or queasy and others did not and the problem items changed over time.  But eventually things seemed to settle down and now I can eat just about anything I like that doesn't have a lot of fat or grease in it.  For example, grilled salmon - yum!  Grilled cheese - not so yum.  Steamed or grilled veggies - yum!  Fried veggies - not so yum.  The only conclusion I draw is that we all heal differently but most of us seem to experience changes in what works and what does not while healing and then settle down. Short answer - it gets better! Just don't do like I did and forget to cut your food into weeny little bites and then chew the CRAP out of it.  I ended up in the ER because a chunk of chicken was stuck exiting my pouch.  Even at 9 months post-op the pouch gets grumpy when you make it regurgitate most of dinner and then toss all the Crystal Light and water you drink trying to flu**** out.  It *really* doesn't like contrast dye either. -- T.Rob

Good Morning, First Timer! I am 9 days away from surgery. The liquid diet has been brutal just since yesterday.I thought my body would adjust and I wouldn't feel hungry (like the first few days) but I am VERY hungry. Does anyone have any hints to helpme through these next 8 days?

Welcome to our group here. I do hope things start to get better for you because I have found there is life after RNY. Of course we wont be able to eat like we used o but it is doable. Keep us posted on your condition.                                          Annie

I can't say that I was "sick" but the first 2-3 weeks are a little touchcy. You have to remember everything your new little tummy has gone through and everyone does heal at different speeds. I'm sure you will be feeling better soon. Staying hydrated is very important. Maybe on Friday at your followup the doctor can give you more suggestions.

Welcome to the boards neighbor!  You will have to come and visit with us the next time the Charlotte Gals get together for lunch or something!  :) I did not have any issues like that, but I would dare say that your new tummy is irritated and sore and tired.  I would suggest liquids until you feel better.  Soups and broths will work wonders for letting that little tummy rest.  :) Again.. welcome!

Welcome to the forum.  This will get better.  You are going through a rough patch right now, because yep...your body is still adjusting to the surgery.  I agree with having some soup or buillion.  Those two things have become my comfort food when I'm feeling yuck.  You will do fine..  just keep in mind that you need all the fluids you can get right now.  you don't want to get dehydrated.   good luck and keep up the good work. Welcome to the Group!

I'm sorry that you are having a bit of a rough start. Honestly, the first few weeks are usually the most difficult. IT GETS BETTER! MUCH BETTER!!!

Be sure to stay in touch with your Dr's office. If something doesn't seem right and/or you are really have problems either keeping things down or with pain, that needs to be addressed. While there is always some discomfort post surgery, because this is major surgery after all, you should be steadily improving ... On the other hand, as you start introducing more foods you may have issues with over-indulging ... The pouch actually takes 6 to 8 weeks to heal completely and there is a lot of swelling that occurs early on. Soooo ... be gentle with yourself, continue to listen to your body and call the Dr as often as you think you want to ... They get paid for that and there is nothing wrong with calling them.

Hang in there!

Barb

P.S. Oh! There's a seat right here next to me on the loser's bench ... Come sit and talk anytime you want to!
