Stalled

I'm 6 months out from surgery, have lost 74 lbs, but the last 2 weeks nothing!!  Maybe the lack of exercise because of shin splints, but I feel so blah!! My 6 month blood work came back and the Drs office called said that my liver functions were WAY off wanted me to come in immediately.  I have an appointment tomorrow so I told them I'd just wait and not go twice in 3 days.  So another reason for the blahs. Sorry to whine, but I just wanted to vent a little - I'm worried about the blood test results.  Any one out there have this problem and what was the results? Dianne

((((Dianne)))),

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. Try not to worry so much about the test results. The nice thing is that you are being monitored. I'm sure that whatever was "out of whack" on the tests can be adjusted to get you back on track.

It's really normal to stall about now. It takes much more "work" to get this last 20 to 25 lbs off, but you can do it. You have to realize that your resting metabolic rate is much lower now, so the weight loss itself is going to slow down. You have done a fabulous job taking off 75% of your excess weight in the first 6 months. Statistically, many people only take off 60% of their excess weight period! So you are already ahead of the game. Also, statistically, you will lose 2/3 of your excess weight in the first 6 months, and the last 1/3 in the next 6 months. You don't even have a 1/3 left to lose. It will come off, just be patient and be sure that you are doing the things you need to do to be successful. I know I probably sound like an evangelist, but I found this great program called the "Beck Diet Solution" by Judith Beck. I think it's especially good for those of us on the home stretch and approaching maintenance, because it's not a diet, but learning how to "think thin."

Please let me know what your Dr. has to say and hang in there.

Where your liver functions high? Typically being obese causes a fatty liver... with fatty liver you also typically have elevated liver enzymes. Post-op the MWL (massive weight loss) can cause your liver enzymes to either stay elevated, go up higher, or if they wernt elevated they go up. Your liver has to process all that crap comming out of your body. My liver functions were very high pre-op... post-op one went down and the 2nd kept going up and up.... even at 1 year out one was ok and the other was high but it has been dropping. I am going for bloodwork again in 2 weeks and will look at my liver function again. My surgeon didnt seemed worried but I did have a history of high liver functions. He said it could take time for the liver to 'recover' for all its been thru. As for not losing for 2 weeks - thats normal... just be patient. Also check your inches.. you may be losing them instead of pounds!

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

Scar revision on arms - 3/2015

HALO laser on arms/neck 9/2016

Thigh Lift 10/2020

Thanks for the encouragement!  I feel great and hope that all is well tomorrow morning.  Will let you know after I get to work. I am walking a little again and it's not hurting - but no dancing or heavy cardio yet.  Maybe in a week to 10 days and the shinns will be better. Thanks, Dianne

Dianne -  Sorry to hear about all of the things you've got going on. Hang in and just wait for the Dr. to talk with you about your blood work. Our minds can jump to too many conclusions. Your weight loss is awesome! Hang in there with the stall and give your shins the rest they need. Soon you'll be back to exercising. Doesn't that seem funny, upset that you cant exercise? Who would of thought that would have been true prior to WLS? lol! Wendy
