My information is being submitted to the insurance company today for approval for the lapband. I'd appreciate prayers and good thoughts that I'll be approved. Also can I get some suggestions for protein mixes? I tried some samples from Unjury but I thought they were nasty tasting. Thanks. Helen

Good luck on the insurance approval, I pray it will go quickly!  The only protein drink that I could tolerate was Fuzzy Navel mixed with Orange crystal lite.  Now, it's not like drinking a real fuzzy navel but it was tolerable.  Fortunately, my doc does not encourage us to use protein supplements, he wants his patients to get their protein from food, so that is what I do.  i actually gave all my protein stuff to a friend who is having surgery on 2/29; I was glad to see it out of the cabinet. Have a great day!  Alice

Good Morning Helen -

I honestly think that waiting for the insurance approval is probably one the hardest parts of this whole journey. I hope that it goes through quickly for you. I look forward to hearing that it has been approved.

I'm not sure if you are near a Vitamin Shoppe and/or GNC store, but if so you can probably go see if you can get some samples. I have use the AnyWhey products that are available there and at Trader Joe's and they were okay. I also have use AmericanWhey from GNC. It's the best one that I found. With most, you can return them if you don't like them. I wouldnl't "stock" up though. While I didn't notice this at all, some folks say that their since of taste changes post surgery.

Wishing you a speedy and positive response,

Barb

Helen - My thoughts and prayers go out for a speedy reply from insurance. APPROVED! Yikes! I put and order in for some samples of Unjury and a full size container of the Unflavored just the other day. I thought from what I read the unflavored would be good to add into foods or drinks...guess I'll find out soon. I went to GNC last night and bought some Ready to Drink items. I scoured the website finding high comments. I bought all individual servings, they were more expensive but really the only way to taste before buying full pks. Here's what I bought: Isopure Drinks in apple melon, grape frost and icy orange = 40gm protein per drink Muscle Milk in vanilla creme and mocha joe = 32 gm protein per drink Lean Body in bananas n' creme = 40gm protein I also picked up some Kroger Carb Master Yogurt 12gm protein with only 4 carbs. I still want to run to The Vitamin Shoppe and get New Whey bullets 3oz = 42 gm of protein. Now I haven't tried these yet, I will start trying them tomorrow because I'm going to be having a nice Valentines dinner tonight. I don't want to waste them by drinking them if I'm just going to be blowing it by eating maybe not so well. I can give you an update after I've tried them. I'm sure the ladies here can give you some of their favorites. Best Wishes!

One of the best presurgery decisions I made was to order a Bariatric Protein Single Scoop Sample Pack from bariatriceating.com:  http://www.bariatriceating.com/ulprtapa.html It really got me through the presurgery week and the two weeks afterwards, when I would otherwise have been casting about wildly trying to find interesting things to consume beyond the booooooooring sameness of clear liquids and Jell-O.

The best tasting (to me) protein supplement I have found has been the chocolate "Body Fortress" brand at Wal-Mart.  It also happens to be the least expensive in the 2 lb size.  I mix myself a shake to sip on every morning for breakfast with milk, protein powder, and decaf coffee for a high protein iced latte that satisfies a lot of cravings and gives me about 30 gm of protein!  I also have a small container of unflavored protein powder which I used in the beginning to add to cream soups and broths to increase the protein content when I was still on a liquid diet post op.  I could never stand the protein bullets, as appealing as the thought is of getting all that protein into one small serving...  Good luck and please keep us posted!
