??s about knowing when Sleep Apnea is "cured"...
For those of you who have been told your apnea has been "cured" since surgery and weight loss... at what point did you get that news?
I would think a new sleep study would be needed to determine that, so when do you/your doc determine that it's time to do that to avoid having one too soon before the apnea has ceased?
I've read that 87% of sleep apnea is "cured" by WLS. I like that statistic and hope I am or will be part of it.
I feel like I'm sleeping much better, but don't see how there's any way to know "for sure" w/out another study. With my co-pays (and new insurance year starting) I don't want to get one too soon, but want to know ASAP since I'm battling my Blue Cross about how they are rating me... longggg (and irritating) story and not getting into that, but my sleep apnea is one of few medical issues I have that they are "penalizing" me for and in my battle/WAR with them, I want to prove to them at my earliest possible time that my apnea is g.o.n.e.
So, please share with me when you knew to get a new sleep study to determine you were "cured!" Was it at a certing "time" post-op? Or certain weight loss or percentage weight loss? Inquiring mind needs to know...
THANKS Y'all!

You are right. You'll have to have another sleep study done to confirm if the sleep apnea has been cured. Sometimes when you don't have as much obstruction the airflow that was originally set may see to strong; that's a sign that things are getting better. Since you have had a significant weight loss, you can ask for and get a new "titration study" to assess the proper air flow ... if you are lucky, they'll let you know that you no longer need it at all :-)
