If you are talking about the ones in messages then they replace swear words.  I think that's the same for titles too.   Julie

I'm speaking of the stars replacing word/letters in the posts... i've never seen them in the posts until this week.  I would like to think that they were there to cover up curse words... but it seems rather erratic where they show up.  There are alot where there really arent' any appropriate curse words that fit in there (yes, i've tried to fill in with curse words in my mind!)... and there are some where where product/affilite name should be.  (i wrote one post where i mentioned Weigh****chers and it was ****'d out.  in another the name of a yogurt was ****'d out.)  It's just annoying... we're here to help each other and if i find a a certain yogurt recommendation interesting, then i'd like to know the actual name of the yogurt; not just a bunch of stars.   Now all of this being said... i'm assuming that it's the site that is doing this and not just my personal laptop that is making it appear on just my stuff! (Microsoft Vista does weird stuff!)

I have noticed that anytime a word contains a series of letters that, standing on their own, would be a curse word or vulgar, the program automatically replaces those letters with stars, even if they are in the middle of a legitimate word. I had this experience yesterday twice in one post so I changed the words I was using so you guys wouldn't think I was nuts.  If you had this experience in one of your posts, look at what letters were replaced and you will probably see what I am talking about. OMG, Starfish, you are so right!!!  When i look at the blocked out letters from the "national weight loss progam" i named... they do spell a nasty word!!!  Even though there was a space between the two word i wrote!!!  You've very smart Starfish, i would never have figured that out!!!

YES....they are to block out potential swear words!!! But I too find it REALLY REALLY annoying!! It is actually a little ridiculous, instead of doing that, maybe they need to have a swear word filter, something that we can check or uncheck per our discretion. Like if i were to write, "it**** or miss" they are going to probably put 4 stars there, thinking that i just said the 4 letter S word...LOL We are all adults and as long as we don't start seeing the F' word pop up, i think we can all handle seeing a little poo here and there!! But I suppose that there will always be someone somewhere that has a problem seeing the Subliminal dirty word in the phrase Weight Wa...well you know what im talking about...LOL
