As I posted previously, I have my first consult appt. on Feb. 20th.....so here' my question. In the beginning of your WL journey....how did you handle your apprehensive husbands, wives, significant others??? It just kinda freaks my husband out knowing that stuff will be rearranged and left in my body. He's not against the surgery just very apprehensive.

My husband was the same way, at first. Your honey needs to be educated on this surgery as much as you do. Make sure he goes to your appointment with you. He can ask questions for things he wants to know also. Alot of people only hear the bad things about this surgery and not about all the positive things it has to offer. The more he understands it and how it will help you become happier, healthier and more active, I think he will be your biggest supporter. Mine is, and I love him for it. Good luck to you. xoxo Mare

He will be going with me to the appt. He's just not so sure about the surgery. And yes, the bad things seem to stick in people's mind more so than the good aspects.

Karen, My family was fearful for me also but I was very fortunate to have a very suporrtive husband. The way I look at this is I did not do it for anyone but for me. I am the one who was on the insulin injections and the diabetes meds everyday and I am the one who wasent able to go for a walk without a cane for balance. Yes I am still a long way from goal well my first goal but I have to see how far I have come with the help of the surgery. Just to be able to walk and help pick up sticks in my yard makes it all so worth it to me. BTW I having a birthday party for my hubby next week and told him for Valentines day no candy but he could give me some money for clothes LOL. My plans are to look good for his party and to dance the night away.                                         Annie

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

I know he'll be supportive...it's just the surgery part that worries him.  You'll have to let us know how the party goes! Have fun. Don't boogie too much!!!

Both my husband and I were apprehensive for years.  Every time we discussed WLS, we ended up thinking it was too drastic and I just needed to "work harder."  As time went on we both realized that I was "working hard" and it just wasn't happening.  We decided together to research it further, and he was very involved in my appointments and pre-op support group meetings.  I guess what I'm saying is that for both of us, it took more information for us to be more comfortable with it all.  The more info we got and the more research we did, the better we felt.

It took a long time for ME to be comfortable with it! I used to say I'd never have the surgery...guess it took me getting just absolutely miserable watching from the sidelines and especially the birth of  my daughter to make me change my tune. Plus seeing how amazing all of the OH members look!!!

I was very lucky that my DH was in agreement from the begining , it is all about my health. I have to take so many meds and shots for my Diabetes and he is all for it for the health issues. As ar as losing weight he couldn't care less I was once 100lbs heavier and he never noticed when I gained it or lost it.I think DH was more understanding since he had brain surgery 3x's and operations really don;t freak him out. He is more afraid of my insulin resistant diabetes then he is any complications that might happen in surgery.    When you explain all the health benefits your DH will see that there is less risk with surgery then without it.
