Knot under my incision

I have already called the dr. office and I am waiting on them to call me back. I am 9 days out and I feel great no pain, lots of energy. BUT in my 1 week post op visit I remember Dr. P telling me to watch for a knot developing under my incision. I think he said that there should be pain associated with it. I do have a knot under the very top incision just below my chest but I have no pain. Should I be concened?

I would say no-- no pain is a good thing! Almost all of us had some sort of pain from that upper left incision just after surgery. I'm sure the "knott" will pass with time also, but it is good you have called your surgeon. They'll be able to tell you if all is normal or not. Congrats on your WLS and good luck working to your goal! :)

I had a "muscle cramp" in my lower left abdomen at an angle but no knot up higher.  Please do let us know what Jon says.  (Or actually, probably, Tammy).

More than likely its just scar tissue - most of the times you will find incisions feel a little 'hard' as they start to heal. One the incision has healed completely you can do some 'scar therapy' on it and help break up the scar tissue (IMO wait a minimum of 1 month out). I suggest using vitamin E oil or you can invest in scar creams (vit E oil is cheap and works just as good). You want to massage the scar in ONE direction (i.e. top to bottom OR bottom to top, do not rub up and down)... apply a little pressure (not enough where its painful) do this for a few minutes in the morning and at night. You should notice the scar getting smoother, lighter and not as hard.. once its smooth and no longer hard you can continue with just putting on some vit E to help the appearance of the scar if you so desire. I had ankle surgery a few years ago and went to physical therapy for it and they also did scar therapy to help with the nerves and stuff (its a pretty big nasty scar) and they taught me what to do :-) At my 6 month f/u with the surgeons PA she could barely find my incisions!

I had little knots underneath each of my incisions. It was just the healing from the inside out happening and they went away with time.

Let us know what your Dr says hon.
